Description 2007

This is Nemo's Nautilus being finished in a secret cave on some remote island. We were given the task to make two drawings showing where Nautilus could have been build with nobody knowing about it.

I made this as a sample work for applying to Computer Graphics at gsCEPT (www.gscept.com), LuleΓ₯ University of Technology.
I made it in and estimate I'll be ready with my bachelor's degree here in 2011.

Is Corto Maltese or the Captain Nemo"?

Really impressive work. I just read the novel and was blown away. Verne would be very proud.

Thank you! I wouldn't dare guess Verne's reaction if possible, but I tried to stay true to the book's description of Nautilus and not go sci-fi overboard.

Wow, is that Corto Maltese overlooking the building? If so, my two favourite stories brought together: that of Captain Nemo and that of Corto Maltese.

You're right, he is quite Maltese-ish but was meant to be Nemo himself! Very possible that I subconsciously thought of Maltese too.

I love this drawing. There is news that a sequel to the 1954 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is going to be remade, and instead tells of how Nemo built the Nautilus. I hope they have a scene like this one in the movie.

Thank you! And that sounds like it might be interesting, have to check it out if it happens.

Thanks for featuring me! You have made an impressive catalogue and it was interesting to read your interpretation of my design. I know very little of submarines and I think I learned some things about my own ship from your description I merely tried to make it artistic and found some inspiration from other artists.
I would be bery grateful if you would link to my images here on deviantArt instead of Elfwood since I use Elfwood very little nowadays and might not keep them there.
