M. Night completely failed at showing any friendship between Aang and Katara, which is really sad because he's usually so good at character interaction. His other movies were very character focused, and family was almost always a major theme...Everything in the Last Airbender had to be spelled out for the audience. So unless someone came right out and said "Aang and Katara are friends", there's no way of knowing.

It's ironic because family is also a strong theme in ATLA, you'd think he was right in his element. Alas Poor Movie.

Yeah. I thought M. Night Shyamalan of all people would concentrate on that theme, but he was too focused on redundant exposition and awkward fight scenes.
