I started this painting about a year ago and have been working on it on and off ever since. It started as an incredibly rough sketch then grew into... this. I used a LOT of reference for this one.

I've had the idea for a long time that Raziel wasn't just the prophesied hero, but was the reborn soul of an ancient vampire as well. The idea started from the way Janos reacts when he sees Raziel for the first time in Soul Reaver 2.

'Raziel, my child, what have they done to you?'

It's as though he thought he knew exactly what Raziel should look like and was expecting something totally different to what he was faced with, i.e. a proper Ancient vampire like himself. It's just a personal theory, I'm not TOO bothered about whether or not it's true.

So, this is my version of what Raziel would have looked like as an Ancient Vampire, standing on a mountain peak admiring the sunset.
