Description Male Attwater's prairie chicken in the middle of his foot-stomping display

The Attwater's prairie chicken is one of the most endangered bird species in North America. Once found in coastal prairies in Louisiana and Texas, their range is now limited to two preserves and a private ranch in Texas. Fewer than 100 individuals are remain in the wild; less than 200 individuals are in captive breeding programs at several different facilities. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center contributes about 50% of the birds released into the wild each year.

SO Pretty!!  He looks very similar to our Greater Prairie Chicken in WI.  Do you by chance know what the difference is?  I am just fascinated by these beautiful birds.

The Attwater's is a subspecies of the Greater prairie chicken, hence the similarities.
