Description Soviet VDV Paratrooper Private, Obrazyets 1988 Regulations, Winter Field Equipment Dress

Country: USSR

Date: 1988 - Early 1990's

Branch: VDV (Airborne)

Rank: Desantnik (Paratrooper Private)

Location: Afghanistan

As the summer-weight Obr1969/73 uniform was being phased out and replaced by the Obr88 uniform, so too was the winter set. This particular set included a button-in padded liner set and a detachable fake fur collar. The pocket arrangement was the same as the summer-weight uniform and the trousers were left unpadded below the knee so as to accommodate Sapogi or Botinki. The field equipment set is that of the RD-54 rig issued to VDV, Spetsnaz, and Airborne-qualified MorPeh Naval Infantry (Marines). His rifle is of the AKC-74 variant.
