Sometimes female Mallards can be pretty hard on their babies, but then there are mothers who take protectiveness to the next level. This mother falls into the latter category, and she had to, with 12 Ducklings to look after.

Species: Mallard or Wild Duck (Wilde eend)

Latin name: Anas Platyrhynchos

Originates from the temperate and subtropical Americas, Europe, Asia and North Africa, and has been introduced to New Zealand and Australia.

Current status: Least Concern
