Description
When: March 24, 2019
Where: Olmense Zoo (now Pakawi Park) Olmen-Balen, Belgium
Unexpectedly coming across baby Animals is always a pleasant surprise
This Chicken and her many chicks were walking out of the barn, and allowed me pretty close in the most ridiculous position.
I know people were staring at me, and I didn't really care because these fluffy babies were totally worth laying down flat on my belly for

The parent having those wide eyes kind'a makes me imagine it staring at you and thinking, "Why are you getting this close?!"

Haha, I think she was debating whether I was "too" close and she had to move because of it, or if my distance was okay
To be honest, it looks close, and I kind of was, but I did use the zoom of my lens to disturb them as little as possible.

Hm, does using the zoom effect the picture quality for you? The camera I have now, I mainly decided on because it's supposed to have great zoom abilities. But I always try to get as close as possible to whatever I'm taking a picture of, because it seems to get fuzzier the farther away I am. One day I slowly chased a robin around my house, and it was probably the clearest bird pictures I'd ever gotten with that camera because of being very close and not needing the zoom.

It really depends on the camera.
Some have great zoom abilities, and some quickly enter the digital zoom range - which results in fuzzy and grainy quality.
It's always a bit of a challenge to decide how close to get to the animal. I'm pretty aware of boundaries (my personal space bubble is rather big) so it comes natural to act accordingly with animals.
At a zoo, it's mostly wild and sometimes even dangerous animals. The distance made in using barriers is especially big with carnivores.
Although plenty of people don't care about that, have no respect for zoo boundaries or signals animals are sending out, I try to keep a healthy distance and making the most of my camera 🙂
After all, what is the user of a huge lens if you're going to shove it up the nose of your subject? 😉
