Description
When: July 19, 2020
Where: Vogelpark Avifauna Alphen aan de Rijn, The Netherlands
For how often they can be fonud in zoos, we have really not seen hem very often... I think it might just have to do with their enclosures, and how close you can get. Sure, we will pretzel ourselves into impossible positions in order to get a good photo, but sometimes even that isn't enough.
Despite not having been able to completely get the fencing out of this photo, still very happy with it
Species: Blue-Winged Kookaburra (Blauwvleugelkookaburra)
Latin name: Dacelo Leachii
Originates from northern Australia and southern New Guinea.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…The Blue-Winged Kookaburra is a large species of Kingfisher, measuring only slightly smaller than the better known Laughing Kookaburra.
…They are also known as Howling Jackass and Leach’s Kookaburra.
…The species is sexual dimorphic, but only in a small difference: the male has a blue tail, and the female has a rufous tail with black bars.
…Adults of this species are notable slow fliers; they are sadly common amongst traffic victims.
