Description
Photo taken in April, 2014 @ BestZOO, The Netherlands
A last photo of when the Emu chicks were still young, cute and fluffy and able to get on camera without them REALLY picking at my camera (which they love to do from behind the window). It's gotten far more dangerous to get close to them now that they're outside
Species: Emu (Emoe)
Latin name: Dromaius Novaehollandiae
Originates from Australia.
Current Status: Least Concern
Did you know:
… The emu is the second largest bird in the world, after its relative the Ostrich.
…It is the largest bird native to Australia.
…Emus use their strongly clawed feet as defense mechanism, and their legs are counted among the strongest of any animal, allowing them to for example, rip metal wire fences.
