Where: Zoo Dortmund, Germany
Even just sitting, resting, these Condors are impressive to look at!
(Because of the fencing and distance, no full-body shots, just close-ups of the two individuals.)
Species: Andean Condor (Andes Condor)
Latin name: Vultur Gryphus
Originates from the Andes mountains and adjacent Pacific coasts of western South America.
Current status: Near Threatened
Did you know:
…It is the only member of the genus Vultur, and is the largest flying Bird in the world, by combined measurement of weight and wingspan.
…The Andean Condor has a nearly featherless neck and head, of a naturally dull red color, that may flush and change color depended on the Bird’s emotional state.
…This Vulture is sexually dimorph; the male has a wattle on the neck and a large, dark-red crown or carruncle on the crown of the head. It is one of few Birds of prey where the male is larger than the female.

I so like how they soar. How they look, that’s another story. Personally, I think the gods (insert your deity of preference here) gave this bird gracefulness in flight, then sneezed when they came to how it looks.

I thought I'd feel the same, with the nakedness and those fleshy bits, but I think the distance to them made me look at them as regal instead.
