i just came back from a one-week break from east malaysia, kota kinabalu. it is a very relaxing time to paint and muse. i found two really good reference pictures on dA and did a life painting of the rapids at Babagon, in the outskirt of kk.medium: kisshou watercolor on schut watercolor paper - acid free, 200 gsm. cold pressed, 18 x 24 cm.

The bird is beautiful with amazing detail, and the horse is nice, and the field is so very pretty and peaceful. And they come together to make a lovely picture!!!!!

Very nicely done. The colors are clean, and the contrast is very well-done. I especially like the little bird, especially the gray feathers over its eyes.

Oh my gods, these are fantastic! I think, because of the lighting, my favorite is the horse, but it's a close tie between that and the landscape image. All three are absolutely terrific, however!

First time I actually heard a foreigner (much less a dA one) mention our country.
Gunung Kinabalu is the tallest mountain in South East Asia too.
Did you like our food? They're probably the best thing about Malaysia.

Yes, the food is nice, but kk food is quite expensive.
The blue sky and dramatic clouds in the sun and the sunset were just, simply, absolutely stunning.

Really? I live in the Peninsular Malaysia, and in many of the states there, there are streets full of hawkers selling delicious yet cheap Malaysian food.
We're a multiracial country, so there's all sorts of cultures and food here.
I wouldn't know about kk, but I heard the food near popular tourist attractions are bound to be expensive.

Singaporean here. 
kk is the most expensive place among the malaysian cities, next to kuala lumpur. East and west malaysia has different flavors.

Ooh, yes, Kuala Lumpur does have expensive food, but you can still find some nice hawker spots away from the big skyscrapers.
KK is a popular tourist attraction due to Gunung Kinabalu being the tallest mountain in South-East Asia, and the local native villages, so the prices sky-rocket like crazy.
I agree, though I rarely travel to East Malaysia.
