Holt might be Blam happy, but at least he blams incompetent governors instead of regular soldiers.

Holt was my favourite too, Then I HEARD HE WAS MADE AN INQUISITOR!!!!!!!
How he managed that is quite believeable considering what he's been through. Now, he is immortalised in the eyes of the Emperor

Even in her old age she still fights now and then? Badass
Gotta say I am surprised she didn't obtain the higher form of age regression for her service but eh she has battled full force long enough ^^

Also, am i picking it wrong from the planets mentioned or is most (if not the whole) her career/life centered around the Calixis Sector?
The promotion to lady-commissar seems to have been a sort of emergential thing - would she have lord-commissar stats at that stage or was "just" a beefed-up commissar with the badge?

bah so a male hating boo-hoo-daddy-hated-me-for-killing-my-mommy-when-i-was-born-which-toughen-me-up-and-made-me-hating-all-men commissar survived where most of people of her profession whould've perished (except Commissar Cain of course) and now busts the balls of other poor sudents in Shola Progenium, somewhat not the ending i hope she'll get, i thought it'll be more like a heroical death that fits her more no? As for settling down witha former member of her unit, it's probably Boone right, so yeah hate these types of endings, way too feministic for my liking...

SolCannibal In reply to Orlona [2013-10-03 21:57:55 +0000 UTC]
Well, i would say you might be projecting as much as reading then.
1) Her father was messed up, but there's nothing implying she's a man-hater - in fact it's main effect on her seems to be an obliviousness to the idea of gender roles. Brutality is par for the course with commissars, specially the young and overeager ones (not to mention we know crap about gender in her first regiment, it could have been mixed or all-female for all we don't know). That said her trial and transference from Kuluth over the Boomslang's issue makes it clear she was a BAD comissar, if not a dangerous failure of one, at the time. None of those things address the fact her behaviour was apparently influenced by FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE of her trainer, Comissar K59 (implied).
2) It was the influence of one of her (male) students that made her confront her first rethink and confront her past failures as comissar - not to mention that student is "only" John Fuklaw, who's 10 times the ball-buster comissar she ever was or would be. Dammit, he's a morale officer for SPESS MEHREENS of the ever angry sort!!!
3) About the "survived where most of people of her profession would've perished" i would point out that she survived but little more of that: she has no epic victories or boss battles to show like Cain, Gaunt or Yarrick - not to mention her one moment in history books is refered to as "Paradise Lost", so she's successful, but not insanely or amazingly so.
Sorry for all the nitpicking and feel free to ignore as it has been years since you posted and i'm being kind of silly in replying.

Raven913 [2011-02-13 23:42:54 +0000 UTC]
I don't think she's a Sue... doesn't seem like one, considering she makes mistakes which are acknowledged both by herself and others, e.g. the Kuluthian 113th. And the whole troubled past thing is something all Commissars have, so that particular Sue-ifier can pretty much be discounted. In my opinion, Raege is a cool character.
Her dad was such a sexist prick. I want to kick him where it hurts.
"Is rumored to have settled down with former member of her unit, but declines comment." Dear goodness, why am I hoping to everything there is that this is true and said former member of her unit is Alice Boone?

Do you think, with what you've seen of my work that I'm about happy endings?
I am glad you don't think she's a sue. I took the universal test and she comes close, but apparently isn't one.

Raven913 In reply to Mr-Culexus [2011-02-14 03:46:45 +0000 UTC]
Ah yes, the Universal Mary Sue Litmus Test... I put almost every character I make through that just in case nowadays. There are a few skewed results, though. I once ended up with a more flawed character who registered as more of a Sue than a less believable character because of her purple eyes (which were random rolled, so maybe I should have skipped that).
