Update 9/28/13: I added the logo at the bottom, for this is now a piece that will go into 's NFL Pin-Up Art Jam. Plus, I changed the color of Sapphira's retinas to a lighter color to give her eyes more of a bionic feel to them.

Aw yeah...it's that time of year again! At the time of posting, the 2013-2014 NFL season begins in just four days! And my beloved Carolina Panthers play in seven days...opening up their season at home against the Seattle Seahawks! Plus, I also play fantasy football in two separate leagues, in which I came in 3rd and 4th place in last year! (Fantasy football is nothing but D & D or Magic the Gathering for jocks...it's still very geeky and I admit that! ) For those of you that have been friends and/or watchers for the past few years now, you know that I typically do an annual football themed pic in support of my Panthers and this year is no exception!

And this year, none other than my franchise player and MVP, cybergirl extraordinaire Miss Sapphira Reese gets her number called to be the feature person in this year's football pic, once again wearing the jersey of my personal favorite football player Mr. Steve Smith aka "Smitty"! (Side note: I have implemented some of Smitty's personality into Sapphira/Nikki, such as being 5'9" tall, being a passionate hothead, being a top athlete, etc.) Sapphira's ready for some football, and so am I!

I used a pic of Beyonce in a recent spread in GQ magazine...I really liked the pose and thought it was super sexy with her in her t-shirt and panties and just wanted to draw it! I'm still working some kinks and details out in the combining of Sapphira and Nikki, so some details are either new or missing depending on how you look at it. I've decided to drop the blue circuits going into her right eye for one, yet I've decided that I want for some circuitry and cybernetic details to be visible when her symbiote isn't present.

The colors are also still being adjusted. I've think I've found a good balance between making her darker than what she used to be, yet still light-brown complexioned. I've also ditched using darker toned outlines for her fleshy areas and have gone back to all black cel-shading style. The background happened on the spot, as I was gonna do a similar black and white background with a pasted in logo like I did last year, but wanted to do more. Not as good as it can be, as the foreshortening of the field throws the perspective off, but it's much more engaging than a plain b/w background.

For those of you that don't do football, or if you do yet don't know all of the rules...Excessive Celebration is a penalty that a team can occur after scoring a touchdown when the person that scored does something that causes an unnecessary delay in the flow of the game. Players like Chad Johnson/Ochocinco, Terrell Owens, and even my boy Steve Smith would do these premeditated touchdown celebrations, sometimes using props and everything, and the NFL decided that it was getting out of hand. So they've been enforcing that rule a bit more aggressively in the past few years. However, when you look like Sapphira, no ref in their right mind can throw the flag and penalize her!

Happy football season to my fellow football fans...and may the odds be ever in your team's favor...that is unless they're playing my Panthers!!!! For those of you that don't like football/sports...
