Description Ah I do love these engines <3 Probably one of my favorite steam locomotives of all time, yet I barely know anything of the class itself. Mainly due to the fact that most of the information of this engine is in either German, or Danish. But I'll fill in as best I can.

The Danish F class was a form of shunting engine built in the late 1800's, early 1900's and were built primarily for shunting duties and shunting coaches on and off ferry boats, with a max speed of around 35mph, they were also used on commuter trains where cars would really struggle to get up. After the war, the DSB (The Danish equivalent of BR) ordered a new batch of these engines, why? If it ain't broke, and indeed they weren't, and they worked well, so they proved ideal shunting locos, in a way, you could relate these engines to the LNER J72, in fact, these engines WERE essentially the danish J72, only more prettier and had more to look at while in motion. 13 of these engines escaped the cutters torch, only one of which snuck over to the UK to find work at the Nene Valley line, No.656 was a favorite with crews, being responsive and easy to fire, sadly cracks in the firebox resulted in the locomotive being unfit for purpose. But today, technology has increased, and these cracks can be patched, which is why currently, the locomotive is on her way back to being fully restored to working order, and the reason why I made my account "656" in honor of this engine, and just shows my dedication to this loco, any spare money I do come across, goes to this loco's restoration. With the wheels and motion just about ready to be put back together, the boiler is all thats left to be done. I am looking forward to seeing this engine back on it's feet

Right, the valve gear... the main jewel of this locomotive, and I drew it! Sweet jevus, how did I even-

Take care all

Whats wrong with a little more coal in the bunker? Gives her more weight to get her power down... .c.

TheGfleet In reply to MrJoj [2017-01-23 06:06:43 +0000 UTC]

Nothing wrong 😊 but it is because there are 2 versions of F.
one with the High coal box which was not as much common. Then the F with the flatten coal bunker.

The F's with High coal box were used on the bigger shunting yards and the one with flatten bunker were used at smaller shunting yards and at harbours.

Now these of F class that is left looks poorly πŸ˜• at 2014 the Danish Railway Museum scrapped the second last F which was in good condition and it even had the high coal box 😭 the only 2 that's looks great without rust is F 441, F 654 and F 694 but 694 won't drive again because of it is too expensive to create a new boiler.

Eh I thought 657 was alright. But I understand she's getting a new boiler too?

Yearh I Guess Idk if Uk has a better quality to make new boilers, In Denmark it is too expensive πŸ˜”

Well there's always Germany.Β

Well, if we weren't repairing old boilers, we'd certainly be making new ones by this point.

True but the who should pay?? The small groups around In Denmark Dong have the Capital to pay for new boilers. I am not sure about In Uk and their Capital. But I truly hope to see the F's rolling along old branch lines agian.

Well I take it heritage railways in Denmark have never considered working together? Cause over here when multiple locos of the same class need new boiler bits or specific parts. It's cheaper to do more than one. Because the main expense is the tool or setting up said tool. So say these 2 fs needed a new Tubeplate each. If two went at the same time rather than go individually. Then you'd get it considerably cheaper. Same can be said for making new boilers. It's easier to make two of them than just the one.

Very agreed, heritage railways are almost fighting against who is the best, instead of Working together. Uk and Germany are alot better to Work together as heritage railways.

Little 656 has done just that.

My train mags are being packed away into storage at the moment, I have few steamrailway ones older and new and I saw one that had the Nene valley in it an all its locos one of them was your Tinkerbelle. Don't ask me which one, eitherΒ  I was being pestered to shift some other gear and the mags had to go other wise I might have it sitting here in front of me now. All I know is there is one from the 80s when SteamRailway first started and I remember the Spanish tank and Tink and one from 2005-09Β "What's going on at the Nene Valley" I think a headline was if that helps

Fantastic work, Joe! The detail is simply superb!

That little engine must be a sweetheart to all the crews

Is she still on the NVR? If so, what will she do when she returns to steam?

If things go as they do, she should be back on her feet in 2 years time its just a matter of money and man power.

what an adorable little tank engine why is it that most 0-6-0 tank loco's are the most cutest of all loco's! also at first I thought this was the VR class Z 0-6-0T [link] , anyways excellent artwork of the class 656 Trainboy656, well done

I think cause it's got no junk at the front, no junk at the back, and only 6 drivers and its not the 656 class, it be the DSB F class

Such a cute little engine. I usually don't like foreign steam, but I must say this one is definitely my favourite non-British loco. I thought she wasn't being restored though, due to her size?
