Description
This little piece was something of a symbolic representation of...uhr, myself, but at the same time, mostly just a complete experiment with a new style of art creation I learned a while back, it's also the first sumi-E attempt I've made with the photoshop that was a success. Go figure.If you're curious at what the symbolism is, just ask and I'll tell, not that you'd need me to or anything.

Actually, like most people believe, this was inspired by Okami's sumi-E style (ink brushing) while going with symbolic personification of myself...did I just lose you?

Actually, it was the game that introduced me to the style of sumi-E in the first place.
Sumi-E is the art of ink brush painting, which originated in China, but migrated to Japan via Zen buddhist, who at the time saw it as a way of clearing the mind and proving that clarvoyance opened the eye to true beauty of the aether void. Naturally though, the art style evolved to include more then black, brown and gray charcoal ink, now one can use all sorts of colors to make a masterpiece worthy of oriental tradition and cultural history.
I actually drew this in pencil and used the sumi-E photoshop filter to give it the black outline you see, but the coloring is all me and the program's paint brush kit.

Then I shall make thee a Prince! In your commission piece, I'll let you take one item with you: choose one that represents an aspect of yourself, the closer it is to you and your persona, the better the art will be-garantee! I chose a mirror for mine because I'm honest but can be used to trick people, as well as be foggy in my visions of wisdom and knowledge if not given clear explanation. See?
So try things like candles, swords, a flower, anything! Even another animal will be fine by me! It must be symbolic!!!

Well, Since I am a crafter of stories and teller of tales, I chose a writing instrument. Whether a pencil/pen/quill, one of those would be the best symbol. It would represent my creativity and ability to draw people into my stories with words.
Of the three types of things, I think the quill would be the best embodiment of my craft, since it has style and a sense of finality and grace to it. The quill reminds people of the writers of years long past, and the great works they wrought with it.

Perfect! Do you know how to make more professional looking outlines? I'm trying to make cartoon like versions of yokai (japanese myth creatures) a sort of toon sumi-E I guess you could call it...any thoughts?
P.S: My sister visited me and gave me a few pointers on the basics.

Well I don't know this for certain (I only have a very basic version of PS) but apparantly the pen tool can give you very smooth vectors and other curving lines. If you're like me and don't have that I'd recommend buying a tablet if you haven't already got one
