Batgirl whirled round to face the source of the voice, her fists clenched. She felt her heart rate triple as her eyes confirmed her worst suspicions.
The warehouse was being used by a criminal, all right. And not just any criminal - the Clown Prince of Crime himself. The Joker.
"You look lost, dearie," the Joker smiled, linking his fingers together. "Took a wrong turn at Albuquerque, perhaps?"
Batgirl narrowed her eyes as she stared down the pasty-faced criminal, determined to not show any fear. She had gone up against the Joker before, but it had always been alongside Batman and Robin. And even then, it was never an easy time taking down the Harlequin of Hate.
And, as usual, the Joker had brought some backup with him. Two muscular goons were standing silently behind the Clown Prince of Crime, their faces slathered in clown makeup. They stared menacingly at Batgirl, cracking their knuckles.
"Mm. Nice little scowl you've got there," the Joker mused. "You ought to show your teeth a little, though. That's how Batman does it."
When Batgirl once again failed to respond, the Clown Prince of Crime sighed and snapped his fingers.
"Alright, you all know what's coming... GET HER, BOYS!"
