now this is fascinating and interesting (why are both eyebrows pointing the same way?) i am personally interested in how the idea came to be? inspally being that "Asian" is a common interpretation.

Do you mean the eyeballs? That was just my interpretation, and a feeble attempt to make it more 'cutesy', or, as the cool kids seem to say it, 'kawaii'. I personally imagined her as a Middle Eastern girl. (I've never seen her interpreted as Asian, that's actually kinda cool too!)

I asked a Muslim, and the said, "they are allowed. but they have to take care of the animals, feed them and make sure they are healthy and living happily." Fluttershy does all of those things.

it's any unclean animal, which is the vast majority of animals including dogs, pigs, rodents including bunnies, Animals with cloven hooves, basically the vast majority of animals she keeps.
Horses are also included in this list.

Any clean animal is allowed to be kept as pets, including bunnies, hamsters and birds. Dogs.....there are different opinions among the four schools of jurisprudence, but most (if not all) agree on keeping them so as to guard properties (flock, plantations, house, etc.)
Pigs, on the other hand, are considered unclean.
