Usque’s Horeth was born blind and paralyzed from the waist down. As such, the Hora acts as both eyes and legs, but leaves most fine work (like writing or shaking hands) to the Horeth. This means that the Hora’s claws have been allowed to grow to their full, sharpened length, and make the perfect defensive and offensive weapon.

Unusually, both the Hora and Horeth share facial expressions (usually one has a dormant face and the other emotes) and instinctively face the same direction. This makes many people new to Usque assume that both sets of eyes are sighted, characteristically making eye contact with the wrong head. Remember this – People who know Usque always politely look at the Hora face when they speak.

Usque is a bold woman, unafraid to stride into new situations and state her opinion. This frankness is usually seen as a refreshing change to bandying about the point, but sometimes she offends touchy people. She has a heart of gold, but isn’t afraid to tread on toes to reach her goal.

Thus far she has offended five Formaleshaar. Three of her five windows have been mysteriously glued shut, and she has twice inexplicably found her cutlery cupboard filled with blunted writing implements.

Many quote the very existence of Verbundan as proof of a God – nothing so strange could evolve without help. Others believe it directly disproves the existence of a higher intelligence – no deity in their right mind would make something so strange. Others don’t care if God exists or not – they’re still bemused by the existence of the Verbunden. Perhaps the most bizarre and ingenious product of evolution ever to exist, every Verbunden individual is made of two components, the Hora and the Horeth.

The Hora is of a lizard species. Born with an intelligence that is so intense it is inherently mad, the young are only able to perform one coherent action – to seek a compatible, calming mind. Their fierce powers of concentration and mild teleketic abilities make an unjoined Hora a dangerous, useless creature. The Horeth can be of any bipedal species that has a compatible mind with the Horeth (very few carbon-based life forms are not). Any bipedal baby born with a physical disfigurement that will impair them throughout life (i.e. blindness, defective limbs) are left when infants in the birthing grounds of the Hora. The Hora seeks out the Horeth that best suits them and established a psychic link (this can only occur if both Hora and Horeth are under a month in age). The Horeth’s mind calms the turbulent Hora, and also has the capacity of speech. In return the Hora compensates for any physical problem (i.e. becoming the eyes, ears). They grow as a single individual, and at the age of one Verbunden are irrevocably singular, with both bodies being governed by one mind. It is physically impossible to separate the two elements of a Verbunden – the latent telekinetic powers of the Hora keep them physically close at all times.

Verbunden are avid learners, most possessing a photo-eidetic memory. Though some other species find them a little unnerving, they are functioning members of society.
