I don't really know what to sayyyy. I took some artistic liberties with the background, the angle Wesley is lying on, Illyria's costume and stuff like that... Although with the costume, that's just because it's so complicated and it's really hard to find the right references.
Boo hoo hoo for Wes. :c Although this wasn't the saddest part of the episode... The bit with Lorne was the worst. I mean many of you know I pretty much live off the love I have for Lorneytunes. And that whole thing... Boy it just broke my heart...
All in all though, not a great finale as finales go. I was so disappointed because I think it would've gone out with such a better bang if they'd just let Joss carry the show through to its proper end! (What's with that? WHEN WILL FOX LEARN?!?!?!)
Oh yeah, wow, a background, I did a backgrooooouuuund. I'm so proud.
Do you like the way I always seem to start my artist's comments by apologising for something, then saying I don't know what to say, then thinking of six paragraphs' worth of something to say?

Okay, the lighting is PERFECT, dude. Perfect. I totally fell in love with the little shine on the floor, but I'm pretty sure marrying floorshines isn't legal yet.. YET. And the little lampy things in the background are pretty ahmahhzing.
The chandelier is just so prettyyyy how long did that take you?? 'Cause that would've taken me like a billion years! I suck at drawing cool stuff like chandeliers.
I was actually drawing Illyria the other day and totally failed at drawing her outfit. I honestly SUCK at drawing that. I don't know why, but I just CAN'T. DRAW. THAT. EFFING. BODYSUITTHANG.
OH~ and when I saw this in the little thumbnail version in my "messages" thingy I was like WTF I didn't know Rowan was a photographer! and then I was all Oshit. That is one trippy drawing.

Um the chandelier... Well, I don't think it took that long. Basically I had it at a massively high resolution, use a big, soft brush and made a squishy shape, then used brighter colours and added other little soft shapes here and there, then I used a really small dark soft brush to scribble all over it. Then I resized it to be smaller. Scribbling at high res is like a really cheatery way of making stuff look detailed cvjvhsvckj,svhfvb OTL

I didn't really do anything different with the people. And with the background, I used a screencap from the show as reference. It's all just soft brushes and a lot of patience!
It's from Angel, it's a spin-off of Buffy, but it can be enjoyed without watching Buffy first. ^^ (Admittedly, some of the character cameos have a better effect if you've seen Buffy.)

I think the latest is CS4, which I have heard is amaaazing. Photoshop is pretty much the go-to program for most digital artists, and it's worth getting.

Truthfully, my feelings about Cordy's death are mixed. I loved her in the beginning of Angel, but she started to lose a lot of her bitchiness and for me, a lot of her appeal and entertainment value. But coma!Cordy sort of went back more to how she was, which was really cool and I liked her again and therefore I was sad when she died.
But I never missed her, when she was gone. /: I found I enjoyed the show just as much, sometimes more, without her.
Doyle's death was definitely the saddest, I totally agree, and Fred's comes just behind.

OK. The tiles. I was actually trying to draw foreshortening on tiles the other day, and wow it would not happen for me, so this pic is timely because I can appreciate how hard it is.. and you've RENDERED them perfectly. I imagine it would be hard with a dull-ish floor.. shiny floors can just be shiny all over the shop and it usually looks convincing but the dull floors youβd have to focus so hard on the subtleties of the tone in different light. I love how right up the back youβve brightened the tiles towards their edges to give them that slab-ish (lame description, I apologise) texture

Everything in the background is, too, all looming and dark. Your soft building of tone to make shapes is something I really envy, never having had the knack for it and having always relied on lines to define shapes (which is BAD ATRISTRY). I love the lights on the wall and how youβve done the shades of red darkening to brown around them. I love it all, I assure you, but for some reason do you know what I love most?? The gossamer curtain underneath the heavy curtains.. I adore how you can see the slight hint of the windows behind them
I also like the composition, but I do not know if that came from the show so I didnβt want to offend you by going on about it D: I like how it goes ONE TWO THREE with the girlβs face, the lights on the wall and the manβs face. YAY VECTOR.
Iβm sorry that I have not seen the show and cannot discuss the significance of this awesome picture in relation to it D: Uh.. her hair/outfit is cool, as is her expression (contemptuous yet unfeeling?) and I feel sorry for his apparent painful death? ><
I shall finish with: please be very fucking proud of this. You aforementioned effort epically shows.

So none of that stuff was my idea~ But I'm glad you liked it anyway! xD

What I actually did was start out with soft, blurred brushes and build on it really messily with little scribbles at a huge resolution with smaller, but still blurred, brushes, then resize it so it looks detailed.

But to be fair, once I had the basic colour blocked in, I did build the rest of the shapes with tone. It something I was forced to learn in high school art class. I do still prefer doing things with lines, though, it's just a cartoonist thing. C:
The composition, however, is actually something that did not come from the show! This picture is my impression of what happened pretty much directly after a scene that was in the show. I made up the poses and stuff completely. So, composition is mine and I'm really glad you like it!
Her expression... Well, she's not really unfeeling, maybe contemptuous, though, towards his killer (it was not her, she cared for him), but she rarely shows emotion on her face. There's this whole thing where she's an ex-god demon king from another dimension inhabiting a human body and learning about humanity and discovering feelings and stuff. And he was the human she was closest to and...yeah. She's grieving horribly but she's not showing it -- yet. (At the end of the episode it does show on her face. Nice moment.)

Seven layers, not including those wacky green lines I showed you. Three each for the characters' respective lines, base colours and shading, and just one layer for the background. (When you work loose and soft like that it's surprisingly easier to go on just one layer, you just keep building on it.)

I just recently finished watching it all, so I'm a bit obsessed right now! It's an excellent show, most of it. And I still love it even for its failings. ^^
Yes, I feel bad for Fred and Wes, and it was definitely sad to lose Fred, I really loved her. :c I must admit I did come to like Illyria's character quite a lot, too. And loathe as I am to admit it, if the show had gone on much longer I think I might have begun to ship Wes/Illyria P:
