One of two NT angels, there is a lot of bad and nasty stuff said about him in apocryphical or other sources (I think what I've read about him but man who got me interested in angelology had a personal grudge against him), like that he once have "fallen from grace/influence" (but not as an angel who became devil), I think heard similar thing said about Metatron, when some mystic who entered Heaven via Merkabah mysticism (not confuse that with modern occult rituals) said upon seeing Metatron riding Merkabah that "there are two powers in Heaven now".
Well, might be why he is so often used as an antagonist, like in The Prophecy/Army of God films or Legion film.
Other interesting thing about him is the "feminine" depiction he often had, especially in renaissance art. Of course angels are genderless, only fallen have specified genders for some reason, but some were depicted with more masculine traits (Michael, Metatron), and some with feminine (in this case, also Sandalphon, as the "feminine supplement" to masculine Metatron and perhaps most feminine of them all, Leliel or Lailah).

Phenomenal drawing. His face does look a bit...feminine, I guess? But still a great work of art all the same.

Thank you, the somewhat feminine face is intended.Β It is supposed to be reminiscent of some of the renaissance depictions of angels which were less gender specific and more idealized.

That is what I thought saw the face first and thought interesting taking a woman as Gabriel. Then I saw that it had a chest so it was a male. Which has me agreeing with you.
