Would have been better with their arms behind their backs. Obviously flimsy job so they could easily break free (at least the guy was helpless since he had no gadgets).

Subtle changes, but really, necessary ones. If you're going to build an auto-mummifier device you should go all the way. Captives should have little to no chance of escape, though wriggling and squirming ability should still be retained.
And of course, there should always be one big red button that goes down for a second layer, covering the eyes and finishing the job.

Yeah. The scene is... okay. Concept is awesome, execution stinks.
Not to mention, they're buried up to their necks in sand while sitting down almost completely mummified, no ability to use their arms or legs, and somehow they're able to stand up and get themselves out! HOW?
