Description For the #HARPG-Outlaw-Trail
Painted page for Assignment 5, For a Good Cause (Outlaw side) of the Outlaw Trail art challenge and ongoing story/RP. [link]

We're doing our best to shoot up the bad guys around a herd of stampeding cattle.

Saki is a very good shot -- since this is an RP adventure she isn't going for head shots as she would in a real "situation". She'd like the actors to survive the encounter in one piece.
Blackie is an experienced reenactor, so the sounds of gunfire are perfectly OK to him, but he'd really like to get to work and round up those cows.

Rider: Saki Harusame
Horse: HM Black Velvet and Lace (Blackie)
Farm: Harusame Meadows
Outlaw number: 26

I'm currently required to do a lot of drawings of horse-mounted warriors for my freelance work. OH how I wish I have your skills right now!

Ooo, what fun! It pays to have good references - I've got some photos I took of folks doing mounted acting as fantasy knights on horseback if those would be of any help. I have the photos in my stock images folder here [link]

Feel free to draw (no pun intended) as much inspiration as you like from them.

I also haul out my little toy horse models if I need to draw from an odd angle, it can really help.

That's very thoughtful of you. These are very good photos; better reference than what I already found. Thanks for sharing!

You're very welcome. I've got more in my collection, plus lots of photos of horses at horse shows - lots of jumping, and some at the Saratoga race trace. Let me know if that would be useful and I'll scan a selection and post them up.

Goodness I love watercolors This looks like it must've taken a while to do, the cattle look awesome and it's nice that you added in the actual "firing" of the gun, really compounds the action

I love watercolors too! They really give a lot of flexibility and let me put down good color over large areas. The whole composition took about a day, from research to sketch, inking, and painting.

Heh, I'm a manga artist at heart, if there's an action scene it's got to have sound-effects and movement. I've been re-reading my old collection of Tintin, too.

Thank you kindly! Took most of the day to do the research, look up longhorns so I could get their coloring right, and do the pencils, inks, etc.

Thankies! A Western adventure just begs for gunfights and lots of galloping horses. And a stampede.
