The Harpley Hunt - St George's Day Meet 2Announcing the fourth Harpley Hunt audience-participation art event!
It's not quite HARPG, as there's no competitive element - no need to outdo eachother or worry you're not good enough to compete, it's more just a bit of fun to give everyone a chance to take part and draw a little something to contribute to the day's sport together. Absolutely no limits on style or skill level - all entries will be welcomed, and shared in a Journal post on St George's day (the 23rd of April) so we can all enjoy one another's art and horses.
So, what do we draw?
Hunting scenes, simple as that! Your picture(s) can include any number of horses, riders, or hounds, in any combination - you don't have to show any of our hounds if you're happier drawing horses. Pictures of happenings before or after the hunt itself, or just standing about while dressed the part, are just as welcome as action scenes of jumps and gallops.
No limit on how many characters or dra

Ralaar worries over his younger sister and tries to keep her out of trouble.  This may not be saying much since Ralaar is a Sith lord and trouble seems to find him even if he is a light-sider.  His sister was once a full-on dark side Sith sorcerer and is now making a slow but steady recovery to something approaching balance. Unfortunately Ch'an rides like she flies - full speed ahead and obstacles be hanged.  Flying Tiger has a personality to match so her brother gets to worry.  To add to the fun, Ch'an likes to "cheat" and keep herself on the horse by using the Force.  However, this requires concentration and a distraction means her focus drops.

For references I used various bendy art models to help me get the angles and points of view somewhat more correct than depending on my memory alone.  All sketches were freehand. These models are:

I guess that's what you get for being cheeky and not paying attention Very nice expressions!

Ch'an is very cheeky indeed.  She tends to listen to her brother with only "half an ear", which can get her into trouble now and then.

Thank you much!  I think I like the color part best, as long as I don't get too much "cat help".

Your watercolor comics always end up looking like they could be published professionally! I especially love the coloring of the hedge and the smoothness of the blending on Tiger - amazing

Thank you kindly. I'm actually working on a fantasy comic-manga-thing that I plan to get published even if it is only a 10-copy run.

Thank you kindly, I love the way watercolors go with comic-book style inking.  I wish I worked faster than I do - everything would be in comic book form.

I love seeing your work in my inbox - always so sharp, yet colorful and whimsical.  You work with horses especially.. they always look so gallant in your style.

Thankies!  Horses always seem gallant to me and Tiger and Silver are horses that love to run and jump so they are very enthusiastic.  No Ch'an just needs to get better at keeping her eyes ahead.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.  I love your own art (and why aren't I watching you??  Will fix that.)

It takes the better part of a day to lay in the layers of watercolor, sketches and inks were done a few weeks prior.  I'm a long-time fan of manga so I try to capture that sense of movement and fun in these.
