Description See, I did promise more pictures of violets!

One of my favorite things about photographing flowers is how you begin to notice differences and variations as you start to take a closer look at your subjects. I'd been seeing all these purple violets all around, and I took plenty of pictures, but there just wasn't much variation I could get in my compositions, and I was about to give up taking any more when I spotted that mostly-white violet in Violet…but not violet . So I began to look closely at more violets and started to spot differences and details--like the way even the white ones have purple veins approaching the center. So anyway, each of the ten violets here is different from the others in some way. My favorites are the white one with purple-edged petals, and the awesome speckled one.

The background here is derived from a different picture of a speckled violet, as well as a different picture of the white violet mentioned earlier, both blown up and stretched in horrific ways.

This has such a professional look to it, you're obviously a whizz with technology! I love how you've included photos of voilets from various angles, it definately adds interest to the finished piece. The background effect is so complementary too- it looks as though it took you hours to do, did it?

Thanks! I really enjoy working with computers and figuring out how to do things, so I'm always trying to come up with new techniques to play with…

It took me quite some time to get everything in position, so that the little pictures weren't blocking the interesting bits of the background, each picture would stand out from the background, etc., as well as trying to piece together five different petals of one of the speckly violets so they'd all look like one solid background. But I had fun doing it!

that's an awesome idea. (second over from bottom right is my favorite ) i'ver never seen anything like that befpre. from the thumbnail it almost looked like a watercolor. i love white violets too. i used to royally tick off my father by sneaking out into the backyard and digging up as many as i could before he went out ot mow in the spring.

The speckly one is my favorite, too! I just think it's so amazing what variation you can find in these tiny little flowers that, as often as not, end up under your shoes. I'm originally from an area where they don't really grow, but you can bet I'd be digging them up to save them from the lawnmower too!

it's funny to sometimes see them selling plants you've got in your backyard at garden shops.

Thanks--for the most part the background is not distorted, just enlarged a great deal, and mixed and matched.
