Description Well, well, well...has the prodigal son returned? Nah.

This certainly isn't something that one might imagine me to submit to this site...but over the past six months or so, my new hobby of woodturning has consumed my life.

This is make from a piece of Chinese Chestnut wood. As you can tell from the name, this wood is not indigenous to my area...this piece likely came from a tree in someone's front yard. I bought it from a supplier. It is coated with a mixture of walnut oil and polyurethane as a finish. The form suggests that it is a cup but would fit into the category of cup or bowl.

The lipped edge at the top is made from a void in the original piece of wood.

Questions and comments welcome. I will likely be submitting more wooden what nots in the future.

Nice bit of chestnut! - Lovely neck aswell! -do you minde me ask how long it took you?
I'm aware that is might have taken longer than usual if it started of as a block on not a blank

PS I love the colours.. leave a very warm chestnut finish!

Thanks for that - I can bear that in mind I ever am lucky enough to get some - but I had no idea it took ages to soak up the oil
- My eucalyptus is the same!... it kept leaking oil for about 2 weeks all over the dining table!.. Hard Wood's hey!

Thanks. I really enjoyed turning this wood, wish I had some more of it. It turned fairly easy and was bone dry so I turned it to finish shape in maybe 20 minutes. The longest was getting it to soak up all the oil.
