that chestnut is similar to a timber that grows in the Aussie desert called conkerberry or native plum . i thought that combination of colour variant grain was only 1 place I was obviously wrong, interesting rolled edges, nice work

The spalting is gorgeous, very nice design. What did you turn this on? Tools? The tung oil looks very nice. Never sell it short -- it is a marvelous finish. For oily woods which depend on oxidization for color development -- tung oil is a godsend and poly (anti-UV) is a deadout enemy.

thank you again, the spalting is my favorite part. i'm not sure specifically what type of lathe i used, but its nothing overly special. just a regular, run of the mill lathe. same with the chisles, just the basic kinds. tung oil is quickly becoming my favorite finish, so simple and it gives such good results.

lol. actually i don't think it is a burl. it really looks like it in the picture though. i've never seen chestnut like this before, which is why i was so excited when i bought it. i'm trying to get my hands on some more from the same tree

thank you i really lucked out with it, the guy i bought the wood from had a chestnut tree that died on his farm and he was selling off parts of it. its kind of ironic that the things that make the wood so colourful are probably the same things that killed it. lol

Thank you. actually i spelt it wrong, its Tung oil. its just a generic type of oil used to finish wood. its used a lot in cheap furniture, hard wood floors, that kind of thing. i use the MINWAX brand.
