Thanks for stopping by and found me. No this is all 2d. It looks 3d and your question really made me proud that i fooled you.
I don't know how to model in 3d with complex organic forms yet. I know a bit of sketchup on hard edge objects such as man made forms.
My background is 2d and I have a lot of knowledge in expressions and drawing. THIS IS JUST A TEST TO SEE WHAT I COULD DO IN PS ANIMATION.
PLS CONTACT ME FOR MORE INFO IF YOU GOT MORE.. LOVE TO CHAT WITH YOU.

Yes, I think its a great compliment when someone thinks you created a composition in 3D using 2d (photoshop) tools. I was at Wizard World Comic Con selling my posters and this other artist thought I used 3D programs, I said No, its all photoshop. Im really not that into 3D art because sometimes it looks so artificial. Theres no soul to it. Some of the faces look so fake too. 3D stuff is popular I guess; its just my opinion. Your stuff doesnt have that fake 3D look. It looks so lifelike, thats why I thought some 3D might have been used. The truth is, whatever you use "to make it look great" is fine with me, as long as it "looks great". Have a good weekend brother!

I am glad to hear more insight from you. My way is knowledge. Knowledge from traditional animation. I drew each change and tested it to see how one muscle of the face effected another.
No amount of advance knowledge can makeup for the subtle organic behaviors. Try to animate a very subtle sadness by looking at your face as reference. You will find so many sub actions prior
the major expression. In a 3d program, it is a tool. It is as good as the animator's knowledge. The animator has to tell the program what and where to tweet. Phoniness only happens when the actions are too obvious based on a set of algorithms. Organic actions are never the exact same. It might be similar but not exact. That is why we can detect problems. It looks very contrived.

Do you really think it's neat to look at?

Well, he's obviously a creepy guy. Hard to tell what he's thinking when he's looking at while not looking at me at the same time. Flapping his mouth off like that, he'll be killed soon.
I'd say you did pretty well, except the chin needs to move when his mouth opens because, you know, it's connected to the jaw. Other than that, cool concept and ideas you have going here.

true on the jaw.. I was too lazy to redraw it.. LOl
If this was a done with effort I would have included it.
I wanted to mess with the elements inside, being features.
To see it come to an almost alive state from a Dead image it's very neat.
