Gorgeous tribute.
He was a great physicist not because he was particularly smart, but because he was rational and ethical, and unlike others, Hawking could admit when he was wrong. For years he spoke of black holes as an accepted part of physics mainstream. It took a lot of guts to come out a few years ago against the stuffy farts in the physics world, contradicting his own prior position, to state that according to the math, black holes couldn't exist.

It's sad that he couldn't live a little longer to ram that truth down their throats himself. A man who can spend decades championing one position but is able to admit when that position he once championed was the wrong one when the truth is there to be seen, rather than being a sheep continuing to go along to get along, is a man that I can respect.
