Description I've been thinking quite a lot about virgin sacrifice lately.

This odd topic is mostly because of a very odd chain of thought from the Lizzie Bennet Diaries fandom, but it's stuck with me for long enough that I have to get this down on... epaper, I guess. You see, I'm typing this in sta.sh. Because I'm not sure if I'm going to be posting this to my public dA account or not. If you're reading it there... I guess I did. My uncertainty as to whether to post or not has little to do with what I thought the issue would be at the end of my last Introvert piece (which, in part, just goes to show how odd life is).

My uncertainty has more to do with the topic.

To understand this particular piece better, it may be necessary to leave dA for a bit. You need to see the twitter conversation that started it all. To make it simple, I've storified it- here's the link.  You don't need to read the entire thing (it's rather long). But I think just reading the first page or so will give you a good idea of what happened.

So. There we were. An entire fandom throwing questions about virgin sacrifice at each other, the actors and creative staff of a webseries we all love. We joked about annual virgin sacrifices at MIT, the increasing difficulty of said sacrifices, possible substitutes if the virgin couldn't be found. And in all the giggling and wondering if Daniel would actually comment on the issue (he mentioned it, but didn't), I sat there.

This entire situation made me realise some things.

Firstly, fandom is full of insane people. True, this is not an entirely new realisation, but sometimes I'm reminded of how crazy people are.

Secondly, how much easier the internet makes it to say things that you normally wouldn't.

Thirdly- and perhaps most importantly- is that this world has lost something important.

Everywhere you turn, there's a huge push toward acceptance of same sex relationships. It's in the TV shows that are suddenly the most popular. It's on the news as legal battles are won and lost. It's in my twitter feed, on my tumblr dashboard- even at work.

The same goes for feminism. Racism. Treatment of the disadvantaged. All over the world, people seem to be pushing forward to accept each other regardless of race, gender, physical state or sexual orientation.

However, if anyone, male or female, admit that they've never had sex... it's considered strange. Unwelcome. According to the person who learns it, it may even be seen as a challenge.

Virginity used to be a prize, a gift for your spouse when you married. Your proof that you've been saving yourself just for them. Now, it's just something to be lost in the pursuit of pleasure, fun, new experiences.

So, do you want to hear my thoughts on virgin sacrifice? While it was a religious ritual long ago, it's still alive and well today. Because today's society seems to be sacrificing its virgins on the twin altars of Acceptance and Progress.

I was reading the twitter feed and I'm like Myah has some issues. It gave me a laugh though. As far as the story, wow... And very true. Modern day virgin sacrifice=sex as early as possible these days.

How dare you accuse me of having issues, Rose!

I mean I do, but HOW DARE YOU

Tell me about it. Working in girls' schools gives you... some kind of POV.

I can cause I have issues myself so I can tell when others have issues themselves.
