Description Let me start by saying that I know it's a Mourning Dove. That's not the reason for the deviation name. This was taken in the morning with low light that caught her eye. Shot through my sliding glass doors.

Probably about the lower 20's (F) ... our winter is holding on for too long this year.

When it doesn't get in the way of quality, it helps to not disturb the birds from behind glass

clear glass or did you tint it so harder for outside to see in?

mydigitalmind In reply to TTM77 [2011-04-07 12:43:55 +0000 UTC]

It's regular clear glass. Most of the birds don't really mind the movement so much from behind it. The only ones who freak out easily are the juncos (don't blame em since they are usually on the ground) and the goldfinches. Most of the others don't care so much. I even have a few who will stay in place if I go outside.

wow how close can u go up to them?

mydigitalmind In reply to TTM77 [2011-04-07 14:55:34 +0000 UTC]

It depends. The Chickadees/Titmice fly right up to me. The Downy Woodpeckers don't mind being in the tree next to my deck when I'm there - same with Nuthatches and Cardinals. I had two instances where birds let me walk right up to them [link] and [link] (also a Wren let me get close when he was hiding from a Hawk!!) I try not to go up to them though... I wait for them to come to me.

u r so lucky. Bird here flight right away when I do any kind of approaching. But than it's the city.

Birds who used to be skittish are getting used to me. Like these doves - they used to fly away at any small sound. They're getting better Feeding them helps! I'm in a suburban/rural mix.
