Description I told you it's coming, and here it is!
This huge ass file almost killed my computer Took me hours to work on it because every step would take minutes to work and locked down all the memory so I couldn't do anything else
Granted, the original is about three times as big as the version I uploaded here, but it's still big. If you hit the download button, you can get a 1200 pixels wide version.

If you use it, please send me a link to your work, I'd love to see the results and make a little collection with them

Bookmarks I have made with this technique:

Cool! You could also make jewelry with them or use the pages to decorate things, like wooden boxes: [link]
Those could be great activities for kids!

It's really just printed paper, people need to get over this, I am so sick of these comments. Libraries destroy thousands of books every year. It wasn't a valuable book, not a first edition or anything.

This is a wonderful idea! I REALLY want to make some now! It sounds like a lot of fun to make too. Where did you find the laminate stuff? I've been looking all over the place for it!
Thanks!

There are a few options. Craft stores often have them, I think they call it Mac Tac or something, but it's more expensive than other options.
Department stores, home depot type stores and dollar stores often have the stuff in the kitchen section. You know those self-stick drawer liners that come in stone and wood prints as well as colorful prints? Some people stick em in drawers and shelves to protect surfaces. Well, those come in clear as well and that's what I usually use (just make sure it's acid-free if you want the bookmarks to last really really long).
They also sometimes have it in book stores as some people use it to protect their books.
So look around and see where you can find the best option for your purposes. If you just want to have fun with it, buy the cheapest version. If you want to sell bookmarks, use high quality acid-free.

Thank you so much for the tips! It means a lot and it helped tremendously!
I never thought of looking in the kitchen section or a book store before, all I've been doing is looking at craft stores and one or two small office supply stores! Thank you so much! I will let you know when I finish a group of good book marks, and show it on my profile so you can see it, because you helped so much!
Have a good day and an AWESOME week!

Awesome tutorial. I'm going to be making a lot of these for a con I'm attending. I devianted a bit, but my 1st one came out okay:: [link]

I only removed the excess lamination around the magnet strips and folded the rest in. So the only part I had to seal was around the magnets. I'm hoping that will hold it together if not then glue-r-us here I come. LOL!

MyntKat In reply to keropanda [2011-01-02 22:39:54 +0000 UTC]

Nice work! And a good idea to fold the laminate over, I hope it sticks well enough and you won't need to break out the extra glue.

keropanda In reply to MyntKat [2011-01-17 05:26:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.

Good idea, but after a month test run it didn't last. The sides, the long parts, kept coming undone. Surprisingly the shorter sides remained intact. So I've had to remove the laminate along the long part of the bookmark and break out the glue. On the shorter ends I've kept the laminate. I'll be conducting my 2nd test with this version.

MyntKat In reply to keropanda [2011-01-17 05:40:46 +0000 UTC]

I've had one for over two years now and it still works fine. I guess it all depends on how well you apply glue on the sides and how good the laminate sticks.

keropanda In reply to MyntKat [2011-01-22 20:47:30 +0000 UTC]

and how many times you drop it, step on it, twist it, etc. Haha I know that sounds odd, but I did everything imaginable to it, that a customer might do, to test its durability. Basically I don't want some kid coming to me next year and say "Hey I bought something from you last year and that thing didn't even last beyond a day" or the dreaded shout "Hey don't buy from this creep. Its a waste of your money;their stuff falls apart real quick."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MyntKat In reply to keropanda [2011-01-22 21:03:18 +0000 UTC]

No one has complained about the durability of my bookmarks yet. Like I said, I've had one for over two years and it looks as good as new. I've had commercial magnetic bookmarks that only lasted a few weeks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

keropanda In reply to MyntKat [2011-01-22 21:20:26 +0000 UTC]

Well yes your bookmarks probably are because you made them. You see you're coversing with someone who once somehow got a swan figurine super glued to their hand while trying to super glue it so their mom didn't find out they broke it while playing "ninja" in the house....again. LOL! I'm sure my 2nd try at these bookmarks will work out fine. Besides I'm not using super glue for this so it's all good.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MyntKat In reply to keropanda [2011-01-22 21:23:00 +0000 UTC]

And you're talking to someone who once superglued her tongue to her teeth. I can't be trusted with super glue, ever.
However, the quality of materials really has a great impact. I tried some cheaper magnets and laminating foils and they just didn't do the job well, the high quality ones are definitely the way to go.

keropanda In reply to MyntKat [2011-11-18 05:45:42 +0000 UTC]

Here's the result [link] They didn't sell well because someone, me, forgot to but a label on the display to say clearly what they were. LOL! Oh well there's always next convention. Still a great tutorial

(this time it was your collection of workspace photos. i'm a bit jealous, i'm currently working on the kitchen table)

MyntKat In reply to tenderwhispers [2009-03-06 15:53:43 +0000 UTC]

I have various brands that I use, the only thing consistent about the inks is that I make sure they are acid-free, archival quality inks
