Description So, this is the last jellyfish, and this is my goodbye to them.
World Watercolor Month was such a funny adventure! I feel that I've gained a lot of experience and confidence in this period

Thanks to everyone that supported me so far

For the shore, I saw this video by Maria Raczynska about a week ago and then tried to do it myself, but without that masking fluid (I should get that, it looks so useful OuO)

You can find all the drawings for the #WorldWatercolorMonth in the Julyfish Folder

Tools used:
Canson Watercolour Paper (300g/m2)
0.5 mechanical pencil
Koh-I-Noor watercolour pencils
Erasers

Very sad, lonely looking, well done! I love the sort of tribute and then how you ended it, quite sad though, but I like itΒ

Congrats on making it till the end!

The name of the artwork and the concept are so awesome So suitable.

About the masking fluid...it is useful, a little bit expensive for my taste, but it's very helpful. I just bought it again recently and it helped me a lot with my latest artworks. You only need to be careful with the brand of the masking fluid and the paper you use. Many artist's complain about it tearing their watercolor paper. I never had such problem, but I see by some other artist's that they complain.

Love the painting tutorial link

Thanks!

I'll just try one, to see if I can handle it Also the paper I use is pretty cheap, so I don't mind if it gets a little damaged in the first tries (but I'll pay attention, now that I know it ), like for masking tape.
Maybe it behaves like this on different paper (hot/cold pressed), but that's just an hypotesis

Glad to hear that you liked the video!

If you need tutorials on masking fluid:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9cQJP…

www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNhyXe…

About removing masking fluid...mostly you can leave it for 2 days on the paper, then it's probably good to remove it. Some artists use their fingers to rub it of, some use erasers. I use the eraser, because if you have a larger space or many to rub of, your fingers will probably start to hurt. I use Schmincke brand and have no problem with it.

After the first try you will see how the masking fluid and the paper react...then you will get a feeling for this. The same with removing it.Β

For the masking tape I use a Tesa one...and it's...awesome it sticks like hell when the paper is wet, but removes gently after I finish.

Happy masking

Thank you for all the resources!

I'll try with a brand called Pebeo, maybe. And I use Tesa as well for masking tape!

... And I just realized that I should wet the paper first to stretch it before starting painting

TokyoMoonlight In reply to Myrieen [2017-08-03 14:28:02 +0000 UTC]

Pebeo sounds good (the guy in the 2nd video talked about it)

I never stretch my paper...still don't know how to do it the proper way...there are so many how to's

I take the paper, glue it with Tesa and even if it buckles it does just a tiny bit. no worries for me

Myrieen In reply to TokyoMoonlight [2017-08-03 19:15:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, subscribed to both channels and the guy in the second video had such a calm voice *-*
I'll be choosing Pebeo as it's 250 ml for about 14€ against 7/10€ for 25ml by Schmincke. So, no guilty feeling for messing up and "wasting" masking fluid xD Also it's grey

Oh I see, I never stretch paper as well but it buckles a little and sometimes it bothers me

My first watercolors were individual pans from Pebeo and I was happy with them. I think you will be happy with this brand too

I regularly watch the channel "Themindofwatercolor"Β  Β

It's a goodbye, indeed: like following and exploring the flow of the sea, to end up in the shore

Oh my - what did you do to your final jelly O.O Especially since it has such a beautiful coloring...
But true - it quite fits the end of your jelly-journey...

In my eyes your waves look wonderful. I had a look at the tutorial you linked (thanks for that) - and I see what you mean. Nonetheless, without having seen it, your wave looks like "nothing to add and change" (and it still does, even though I saw the video).
If you buy a masking fluid - make sure it is somewhat colored (like in the video). I have one that is purely white (and gets opaque as it dries) - and it is hard to see where it was already applied, and especially to stay "detailed" with it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Myrieen In reply to MariaEnzianiaKober [2017-07-31 18:49:42 +0000 UTC]

Had it in mind from the start

For the masking fluid thing, in the video I saw her mixing it with watercolour, so that's how it became pink. Don't know if it's something solely due to that brand, but, if you can mix it with a colour in general, that seems really versatile (so you can use the colour with higher contrast with your piece - even just white when you need to)

MariaEnzianiaKober In reply to Myrieen [2017-07-31 18:55:25 +0000 UTC]

Hm - I'll have to think about that... it really makes sense - I just hope it does not "color off" onto the paper then.
