Description Short Summary:

Taken from my sketch dump.  Used a few apocalyptic pictures I found online for reference for background ideas.  Outfits come from a dream I had because my dreams influence way more of my art than actual shows do.  Takes place in a later timeline, when these two are like 15-17-ish.  Used a photoshop texture for ground, plus transform tool and cutout filter.  Various brushes for clouds and fogs.  Took ages to color because of all that darn shiny stuff.

Long Description:

OK so this sketch from my sketch dump has been haunting me, and I thought I could make it a good Halloween-ish pic for October!    The setting is from yet another dream of mine, because my mind doesn't like the thought of a story ending even if it hasn't yet.  Don't remember much from it, save that it was about Candace and Perry getting sent to the future, where everything is practically destroyed and the remnants of humanity are fighting a guerrilla war against an oppressive robot force (run by someone I won't bother to mention yet).  There was all kinds of weird stuff going on, it being a dream and all, but I remember thinking "Dang, Phineas and Ferb look cool in their post-apocalyptic get-ups."  I tried to sketch their outfits in my sketchbook, and totally botched it.  But at least I did it SOME justice; they still look cool.  Didn't quite capture Ferb's sort of cyborgish appearance, but Phineas at least is pulling off some of his brown studded leather look.  Don't think he had quite those bright colors in the dream, but I felt compelled to color-code.

The outline was done the same way I've been doing a lot of art lately; vector tracing and a lot of Mormon swearing (that means no swearing at all, but a lot of hard glares and frustrated muttering).  I'm getting better and faster at vectors, but it still takes ages to outline a sketch, especially one as detail-oriented as this.  Took ages to shade too, what with all that shiny metal.  That uses more thought; I have several colors to shade with, and they don't quite go on the same way as fabric's shading/hightlighting does.  And the background took time too, because I actually wanted this to look like it came from an apocalyptic future.  So this took more time that I was expecting.  But not for you, because I haven't been posting a lot lately, and even something done this slowly still came up really quickly, all things considered.  But that's what you get for me being laid up again.  More art!

And speaking of the background, I feel like I'm finally starting to take a pride in what they look like.  At least, when I spend the time on them, they come off amazing and I feel really gooey about my art.  So while it may take a lot more time, I've decided I like working on detailed backgrounds.  Occasionally.  If the picture is worthy of one.

But none of that tells you how I DID the background.  Basically, I went online and found several good artworks done of these kinds of ruined-city-scape sort of scenery.  I used some building outlines from some to get some practice going, by vector drawing colored shapes over them.  The row of houses and the tree up front is entirely me though.  I utilized a gradual darker shade for each row to depict depth, then used various cloud tools to get a really eerie mist to blanket between them for that "ruins rising from the mists" look.  The ground, I used a rock pattern overlay that came with photoshop, then used the transform tool to get it to fade to the background.  After that, a quick cutout filter gave it my own artstyle's look, and I must say it looks fantastic like that.  Burn tool makes good shadows.  The sky was done with a mix of weird gradients and many vectored layers, imitating vaguely one of the skies from a picture I was referencing.  Then some purple and yellow clouds, and tada.  Oh, and there's a 7% purple filter over the whole thing, to give it more of a muted, misty tone.  Just like I did with 9 My Way , only that used a yellowish filter.  Good way for me to tone down my usually saturated color pallet.

I was watching Futurama when I drew that tree, so every time I look at it I think of Bender singing folk songs and getting hit by a train.  Augh I can't look at this pic and NOT see that now.

Interesting song; I just looked it up.  I like the music, although the lyrics are rather melodramatic.  Still, I can see what the song's trying to invoke; sometimes your mind is really the scariest place to be.

Well Phineas is a little too cheerful to brood like that, but it does sorta sound like an older him singing it, lol.  Also, some of it might not be so far off, as the guy who created this apocalypse future comes from his own past *coughMITCHcough*. So maybe that could be Phin at his more vulnerable moments, where the impact of his situation actually dents that shield of eternal optimism of his.

I had fun with the painting.  I used to find backgrounds tedious, but I am finding more and more I like my art more when I put time and effort into them.  Thanks for the comment!

May do more; I've actually just started rewatching that show a few days ago.  I'm reminded why it was one of my most favorite cartoons ever, and how much I absolutely HATE Hasbro for ditching it in favor of those hideous Bay movies.  But yeah, feeling like drawing some humanformers lately!

I'm excited! ^^ if you'd like to see, I humanized my four main transformer OCs.

Ooo OC's!  I used to live with a roommate who was really good with those.  She'd come up with all kinds of elaborate stories and backgrounds, then bounce them off me so I could help her iron out details and avoid the deathly trap that is the Mary Sue.  We had such fun times with that.  OC's can be really fun when done right.  In my gallery, I have some stuff I did for her here and there.

My sis has an OC I thought was hilarious for TFA.  She's named Crossfire, and turns into a black and white hearse because she's sort of an Autobot goth.  She's rather small (sort of motorcycle Prowl's size) when she goes robot mode, because most of her hearse bulk goes towards her MONSTER of a sniper rifle.  She's a crack shot at a distance, but not much of a fighter up close.  And she's got a rather morbid interest in death, which makes her an interesting conversation partner with the life-studying Prowl.  She's so facinated in death, she starts studying Earth religions, especially how they see life after death.

Ironically, while I sometimes dabble in OCs, the only one I ever did for TFA wasn't technically an OC; it was me figuring out how to turn Sari into an Autobot.  But then the series actually DID that, and better, so yay.

Wow! That seems so cool. So better detail you about my four mains:

they're all from different parts of the world like blitzwing is from germany and the jettwins are from Russia. one of them is from a micronation. Oh little fact, I've had the first OC that is soon going to be mentioned since I was... Hmm I don't know any more, around 5 so she's been with me forever. So here I go telling you my OCs.

Lyariax (nicknamed lya) is from Venice while her little sister, zumi (I had her since I was 12), is from the micronation of seborga so technically they're both Italians and when I talk in their voices, they have italian accents, I give Zumi a higher voice. Twin drills (nicknamed twiny) is from London and I'm not going to lie, sometimes when I talk in her voice, I give her a super strong English accent and attitude. And last but the shyest, bellatrix (nicknamed trixie) is from Vancouver, Canada. If I talk in her voice, it's usally soft.

Ok, so I'm not sure what to give twiny for her weapon but lya has an italian long sword as her weapon, Zumi has some sort of italian gun and if stuck with Trixie's weapon for a while, which is a scythe. Also trixie was my very first Decepticon ever.

And thats it. Oh one last thing: lya use to be soo Mary Sue but when I created her, i was so young at the time and well I never understood how over powerful I made her. Now that I'm older she's a good OC, although (I sometimes pretend my OCs are with me) when I turned her into a human yesterday, I caught her eatting all the pasta so not behavior wise.

Excuse the longness

Woot, Vancouver!  Close to where I live.  And I'm also half-Canadian, so I'm all for that.    Sounds like some fun OC's, because so long as the series is introducing funny accents, I say go for it!  Italian and British accents are awesome anyways.

Funny thing is, after reading this the other day, I had a dream about a Decepticon who was more of a centaur shape in robot mode.  He was a train and speaks with a very heavy and low southern drawl.  Got me wondering why robot modes are all bipedal, lol.  Gosh my dreams have all the best ideas.
Most funny thing about him though, was that because he's a TRAIN and follows a TRACK, he doesn't think outside the box much and takes things waaaay to literally.

Hehe thanks.

thst reminds me, a few nights ago I had a dream where I was Lya and there were no more factions and no more war (I guess the autobots and decepticons finally signed a peace trinity or something) so what me, bumblebee, blurr, Twiny, Zumi, the jet twins, trixie, blitzwing, sari, prowl, sentinel, bulkhead and optimus prime did was create a flash mob with my constant begging. The song we choose though was something you wouldn't expect, it was 'one day more' from the musical 'les misérables' (my all time fave musical) and well, it went well. Here's what's even more cool, my four OCs I just mentioned have two major things in common; they all love the anime hetalia and the musical 'les misérables'

LOVE Les Mirerables!!  One of the best musicals EVER.  Really powerful songs in there.  Now I have to go listen to that CD, lol.  If you like that, then maybe you should check out the musical The Scarlett Pimpernel, which takes place during the French Revolution while Les Mis takes place just as its ramping up.  While I think Les Mis is better overall, The SP has some awesome songs also, and I like to think that the two flow into each other even though they are written by different people.

And ironically, I like Hetalia also!  Its sort of a guilty pleasure of mine, since I don't really get into some of the odd jokes, but the rest are funny.  America rocks, and England/Britain is the funniest character, especially when he's in a bad mood.  He's one of those guys I love to see angry because he's just so hilarious.  Especially when he's arguing with America or France.

he i can agree on that but i haven't seen scarlett pimpernel. the musical i'm going to see is the lion king.

also, i love hetalia too! there is a 6th season coming up and (hopefully) australia and new zealand get more screentime. i love everyone in hetalia. (yes, even france).

Ahhh OK that does seem to fit.  I admit I was kinda jamming to the song as I was listening to it.  Not usually my thing, hard rock, but this one did seem applicable, and I liked the beat.  I'll unblock it then.    Thanks for the explanation!

Lol the animation in that music vid seem so random, it makes me laugh.  Is it bad I'm laughing at so violent an animated sequence?  Also, I see the Greek flag in there, but what's the other flag?  I need to look up world flags again.

By the way, I also declare the main singer to be Ferb.  It would just fit.  And Phin and the rest of the gang are the other instruments.

Haven't for awhile, because I haven't had the time.  Currently, I'm trying to get on disability leave for work since I've re-wrecked my ankle.  So not sure at the moment; everything's up in the air.

You re-wrecked your ankle?!  I'm so sorry to hear that.  I hope that it's not too serious.

mystryl-shada In reply to ToaNaruto [2014-10-13 04:11:24 +0000 UTC]

Well, not life threatening, anyways; rather hard to do that with a foot.    So I can take any other kind of serious.  And its a continuing saga; there's a reason I call myself "crutch ninja".  I'm dang good on those things!
Its the being grounded again that's the hard part.  But I plan to use this break to get in touch with my inner creative side again, hence all the art lately.  I'll also be trying to finish the umpteen books I have kicking around; my creative side won't let me hardly start one before it wants to pitch another to me.

Looooooooong story, lol.  Can track it back to 5th grade.  A mix of weak ankles, natural defects, and a VERY HYPER childhood that I don't regret at all but resulted in a lot of ankle sprains.  Now, the cartilage in my ankles are like swiss cheese, only I can't put it on a sandwich.   Sort of a weird kind of arthritis.

...Ouch, quite the visual description you've got there.  And I suppose a cartilage transplant is out of the question?  Forgive my gross misunderstanding of medical procedures, for I am not a medical student...

No actually you are on my doctor's track.  Tried it already.    Have had multiple surgeries in either foot, first less invasive, then more so like said transplant.  But while they can use donor cartilage to make plugs for holes, they can't do much if the whole shebang is throwing in the towel, which might be where we are at now.  I'll find out when I can finally get in to see my specialist, who is awesome and as impossible to see immediately as the President of the United States.
Yes, I read too many books to not try to find creative ways of describing my physical inconveniences.  Similes, metaphors, and exaggerated vocabulary.  Makes it more amusing to me.
