This is that moment in the game where I first heard Barney say, "Just like old times, eh Gordon?"

And I was all... WTF? Gordon and Barney used to hunt armored personnel tanks and use major weaponry, and get shot at? o.o

Black Mesa must have SUCKED for vacations.

Strange thing, I’ve never heard him speaking that in the game /However, while I was looking for some audio files in the game files of Episode 1 I found Barney’s phrases, listened to them all and it seems to me that there are some phrases in there which are not used in the actual game. Something about battling a Strider, a Gunship and a Combine guy with a rocket launcher if I’m not mistaken. Are they just extra materials which were not included in the game? Idk./

Well, a dork I am, I’ve found and read that particular thread at Steam forums. I don't know what Barney meant when he said that. Well, there are two different aspects here, I believe, which should be considered separately from one another so as not to get confused. I mean there are Valve intentions and there is the character’s motivation. Valve wanted for the player to feel involved, not just in battle against lots of enemies, but in battle alongside his friend whom he could and should trust because of their common experience in the past. It doesn't matter what exactly that experience was. Some bar brawls or paintball or vent races or whatever. They did something together and learned to trust each other, that’s the point, I think. And Barney’s motivation is the other matter entirely. May be he meant to say something like: Cheer up, Gordon, we've been doing stupid dangerous things together before. Here's another stupid thing, just on a larger scale. We're a tough team, we’ll manage.
On the other hand, they might have some LAN parties together in the past, that would explain the experience of fighting together. I know that’s a stupid explanation. But well, all our guesses are just guesses.

No, that's not a stupid explanation, it was about what I thought on steam I am Zekiran there by the way

I would say paintball - they're both reasonably fun loving guys, who like to crawl through ventilation ducts at work, that's about the same as crawling through underbrush playing paintball! heheh.

I wouldn't know as I've never played paintball But it's a good theory anyways.
I know I've seen you there. But I'm not registered there myself. I was just looking for some interesting info on Barney and Gordon.
