Thanks, this one's actually one of my older ones; it's don't on A4. I normally do A3 these days.

I use two ways to render my sketches.
One way is the more traditional way which is the have the paper sitting vertically and holding the pencil loosely and making longer strokes - this way gives a better texture and overall realistic tone, but lacks the detail.
The other way is simply how most people draw as in having the paper lying flat and holding the pencil like your writing. I actually hold the pencil in a different way to most people, instead of having it rest between my thumb, index, and middle finger, I rest it between my thumb, middle and ring finger. I've found that this although decreases my range of motion, it let's me have a much more firm grip and so I can do even the tiniest details.
I used the second way to do this picture.
