30 x 40' oil on canvas. Symbolizes attitudes of denial, how actions have consequences, regardless of our willingness to recognize the truth. The mans posture represents passivity and is juxtaposed against deeply rooted, upright trees which symbolize integrity and stability. The bear is a messenger of consequence. The watchers in the forest behind him are silent. The light in the forest represents clarity and truth. lies operate in darkness. Truth is singular. It's existence is independent of our versions or interpretations. We either look up at it and see the dire woods we have gotten ourselves into, and make some strong choices, or we close our eyes and pick a version that we prefer.

The basic theme which comes from personal experience is 'Reality is independent of our perception, or lack of perception of it'. Being illuminated means letting the light of truth in so you can see things for what they are. A man who doesn't want to look at his debt, but would rather live like it doesn't exist is like the man on the rock. He therefore becomes a victim. There is no hope of overcoming anything as long as the approach of denial is taken. As a result nothing will stop the devourer. Getting off the rock requires looking your shit straight in the eye and admitting you are the reason you are there.
At first this recognition can be painful. Panic can set in, but taking responsibility puts the power back in your hands to create an action plan. In these dire woods an emotional or impulsive move can be detrimental, and shuffling blame does you no good. What will you do when the light gets turned on?
