Nanfe, I really love this picture of yours, and as always, I will go into detail as to why.Β But for sure, this is one of your more enigmatic paintings that you ever made.Β
The subject of this painting is the boy.Β First it was him that wanted to be out in the snow, naked.Β And then the girl behind him followed, so as to be with him.Β To want to be out in the snow naked and crying - why would anyone want to do something like that?Β I could see it that for all that the boy had practiced at a martial art or sport, he ended up loosing very badly at a competition.Β Now he's out there just trying to deal with a very strong and overwhelming sense of failure and embarrassment.Β Since he's naked in the snow, I could see him being in the backyard of where he lives or even where she lives.Β
The girl behind him is quite an awesome friend that a boy could ever have.Β She doesn't just want to be with him, but she really wants to understand him.Β I could see her being naked because she wants to feel cold the way that he is feeling cold.Β She wants to feel vulnerable the way that he is weak and vulnerable in this moment.Β Even in the way that she is holding him, she really wants to comfort him.Β In her facial expression, she's very focused on thinking about him and how he's feeling.Β
Now here's what's really interesting about this picture - they both have the same tattoo on the right arm.Β He's holding his own hand to his face.Β The girl has her right arm over his right arm so that her right arm can rap around him.Β But at first, it looks like one long awkward looking arm going from her shoulder to his face.Β I take that to mean that they have a very sacred bond between them.Β For you to have seemingly painted one arm made of both their flesh, that means you see them as one flesh.Β Β It's like theyΒ areΒ as good asΒ married in a permanent and eternal way.Β So that in this moment, his pain is her pain, and they both suffer as one.Β At least, that's how I would interpret their tattoos and how it looks like one arm.Β
