Description This illustration is inspired by canto III and IV from the Inferno....
At the top: Canto II, Dante and Vergil cross the gate and they enter in the Hell and Dante sees the "Ignavi", those who have never chosen to commit themselves to any truth or heroic cause, condemned to run behind a flag (the "heroic cause" that they haven't chosen in life):
"Fama di loro il mondo esser non lassa;
misericordia e giusdizia li sdegna:
non ragioniam di loro, ,a guarda e passa.
E io, che riguardai, vidi una 'nsegna
che girando correva tanto ratta,
che d'ogne posa mi parea indegna"

ENG:"The world allows no fame of them to live;
Mercy and Justice hold them in contempt.
Let us not talk of them; but look, and pass!”
And I, who gazed intently, saw a flag,
which, whirling, moved so swiftly that to me
contemptuous it appeared of all repose;"

In the middle Dante and Vergil across the river Acheronte thanks to Charon, who ferry souls to the Hell:
"Caron dimonio, con occhi di bragia
loro accennando, tutte le raccoglie;
batte col remo qualunque s'adagia"

ENG "Charon, the demon, with his ember eyes
makes beckoning signs to them, collects them all,
and with his oar beats whoso takes his ease."

At the bottom: Canto V: The sinner are judged to one of the lower eight circles by the serpentine Minos:
"Stavvi Minòs orribilmente e ringhia
essamina le colpe ne l'intrata;
giudica e manda secondo ch'avvinghia"

ENG:"There Minos stands in horrid guise, and snarls;
inside the entrance he examines sins,
judges, and, as he girds himself, commits."

I hope you like it

Awesome

Have you ever seen that very old ( like one of the first ever made) black and white film version?
