The lone whale just went for a breath, staying at the surface as little as five seconds which, sadly for it, turned out to be more than enough for the splashing sounds to attract the unusual hunting party from below. To the three megalodons, the high seas held mainly one food source: wandering cetaceans, the very same one this livyatan would be hunting. But no longer. The first shark quickly latched onto its tail and thrashed around, leaving a gashing wound and crippling the fellow apex predator, thus enabling its comrades to go on and sink their teeth into the juicier bits. The second giant shark latched onto the whale's side, cutting into the rich blubbery flesh and thrashing its tail to sever a maw full, flipping their prey on its back in the process. As the happy shark steers clear to swallow at its leisure, the first one copied that approch and bit doen right aft the whale's head while number three rushes in to deliver the killing blow on the now easily available underbelly of the massive whale.

And off comes a good chunk of flesh. Those sharks will be well fed for quite a while.

Refreshing to see this after so many depictions of the whale killing. The shark.
Guess what?
- cetacean intelligence car is a bit overrated, and shark intelligence is greatly underrated, so in reality C. megalodon would be as smart as or even smarter than Livyatan
- sharks generally win against cetaceans their own size. EVERY SINGLE SHARK that has been recorded as being killed by cetaceans was a lot smaller than its attacker.

What you get wrong here is that Cetaceans are far more intelligent than sharks. Sharks can't plan complex attacks and ambushes. Cetaceans can though. As much as I love the giant shark, people need to stop trying to say that very inaccurate art of C. megalodon is accurate. There has never once been any case of any shark behaving like a cetacean and planning complex ambushes. Yeah, they can sort of plan their attacks, but nowhere near as good as Cetaceans can. The roles of this drawing would be switched if this were real life. Instead of a group of SOLITARY animals cooperatively killing entire pods of cetaceans, The Livyatans would be the ones working together to kill a C. megalodon.

There are 0 cases of cetaceans killing a shark the same size as themselves, either alone or in groups.

Awesome pic! This reminds me of a funny incident.
Knowing that i am a paleo nerd people have asked me who would win in a fight between T-Rex and Megalodon.Β Β
