Nice find! This is a male Pine Warbler, one of the more regular warblers (but never too common, especially where you live) in December. They will occasionally try to winter, and usually hook up with flocks of Eastern Bluebirds. A few decent flocks winter on Cape Cod and in Plymouth County, but they are much more uncommon in winter where you live.

Hi Ryan, Thank you!

It's funny you mentioned it, but this one was hanging around with a flock of Bluebirds and Juncos. They were all feeding along the field edge near some bushes and rocks.

Going up to Plum Island on Thursday.... I sure hope the Snowy Owls are there!

Oh they will be. Check the beach and dunes from lot 1 to lot 7, then check Sandy Point. If no luck in those spots, check the dike at Hellcat, and scan the marsh from Sandy Point to the pannes!

Hi Ryan, well I went up there today. and I checked those places and I walked around the sandy point hook... found no snowy Owls..

I did see a couple of Hawks and a Coyote. Really windy out there today.

in michigan our weather has been verry mild, barely any snow and i can even go outside most days with a long sleeve shirt and be fine. You think this mild weather has an effect on the birds, whether they migrate or not? i've seen a couple of these guys around as well.

That could be Steve, I'm in the same boat....For most of December I was out wearing sweatshirts and a light jacket, and we have no snow at all. Today was the second really cold day in a row. The marsh has started to freeze up pretty good, and I too have been seeing some migrants hanging around as well.I always thought they migrated when the light levels changed with the sun angle and daylight duration..could be these are just a few flukes.

Merry Christmas!
