Description Well I finally finished it today. After the decals, I weathered the entire aircraft with an oil wash in the panel lines and rivets. Sprayed a flat coat and put the ordnance together and added on. The wepons pylons came with a number of decals that really add a nice level of realism!

Unfortunately I couldn't find the metal pitot tube I bought - so I ended up going with the kit version - a bit blocky looking; so if I find the nice one I bought, I'll swap them out.

For the windscreen and canopy, I used 1 mm masking tape to line the canopy frames - first time I've done this. I like the way it looks.

She does indeed.ย  This Trumpeter kit has a number of errors, but overall, it looks like a Thud, and there wasย  no one else who made a 1/32 version of her!

yea Trumpeter is the first one to make the thud in 1/32 scale i would love to build one but with their prices i just can not afford.

Thanks, I really wanted to go all out with this one since it was big and easier to apply weathering techniques. I did the whole pre-shading, and then post-fading effort on it.

The landing gear on this one is still pretty wobbly, even using aftermarket metal for it!

Thank you much - don't have any contests to take it to just yet, but I might give it a try if I could get it there in one piece!

it may take a while...so many ba-bombs and other nasties under the wings to do...! that,and it,s just plain big! i almost have to crawl and climb on it to work.....{ha,ha,TCD,s a short little squirt!}

Yeah - I'm really happy with the super thin masking tape I used, a lot easier than trying to paint the frames yellow!

That is kind of surprising for me - usually something like this takes me months to complete!

I happened to see your finished THUD while I was reading up on my niece's choice for the group build...yeah, she picked the Black Widow..but she wants me to do the dirty work ( building and painting....you get the idea )......... so I'm just here, listening to the Detroit Lions on the stream, and doing homework meant for someone else...it's all gravy, really.

BUT I love that THUD!!!!!!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

NavJAG In reply to Blaque-Natas [2012-09-17 23:15:20 +0000 UTC]

Yep, the shape of them is really something. No other aircraft really looks like them. Plus you consider the hard and dangerous work they did in Vietnam, plus that about 1/2 of all of them that were built were lost in action in Vietnam, really lends quite a mystique to the plane!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Blaque-Natas In reply to NavJAG [2012-09-18 00:56:25 +0000 UTC]

I'm liking the THUD now....you gave me some homework * AKA research * to do... I may do a thud in the future....now... if you can help me get out of doing my niece's P-61...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

NavJAG In reply to Blaque-Natas [2012-09-22 10:35:16 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure how well the Great Wall P-61 kit goes together - but don't want to spend the $$ to find out. I suspect that any twin boom kit is kind of tough to put together anyway!

no lie....

I may have a solution to the canopy issue. My friend has a spare....so we shall see.
