This is Beta, a character from my book. She is an alien from a far-off planet whose master has a passion for knowledge. She comes to be the protector of ancient history in this foreign world, despite the fact that she would gain nothing through doing it. Despite her simple circumstances, she is haunted by memories of her home-world and her trials living with a slave-status for her people. Memories of the cruelty inflicted consume her, so vivid they might just become real.
Here is the exert where she first appears.
"Gazing around in wonder and excitement, Perceval was too focused on the vast shelves in the distance to see the strange creature approaching. With its humped back and fluid serpentine smoothness, the floating being blinked curiously at the feline. Its tail bobbed serenely in the air about it, the florescent blues and greens blending easily with the reds and oranges of its wing-like fins. In the lamplight of the library, its skin glowed and shimmered moistly. “Feline…” several voices seemed to echo around the being, child-like and full of inquiry, though it did not move its mouth, only blinking its massive jeweled eyes.
Perceval wanted to touch it, to feel the smooth lighted skin. It swam through the air, approaching openly with the same desire to feel another’s skin reflected on its face. Perceval reached a paw forward as the creature’s wispy tendrils stretched out."
