I don't really see many similarities between the two.
I mean homer is a fat drunk idiot that underneath tries to love and do his family right, but he's kinda abusive and gets people in a lot of trouble
Greg is fat and, maybe eccentric, but he's mostly depressed, and he loves his son more than anything in the world. He raised steven before he went to go live with the gems. The only reason he doesn't step in now is because he feels steven needs his magic training, understands his muggleness and wants steven to grow more. he wouldn't let steven do missions if he wasn't positive he was safe and taken care of. Not to mention Greg is way more wise, responsible, smarter than homer ever was

Funnily enough, the red-headed guy in these comics reminds me lot of Lars from Steven Universe for some reason, to the point where I hear Lars talking when reading his word bubbles.
On another note, I actually think this would work a little better if the word bubble in the final panel was taken out completely- the girl's expression already says it all.Β Just a thought.
