Description "Bronze Dragons truly enjoy observing and interacting with humans. They often go out of their way to help them, such as rescuing humans from a shipwreck or dangerous aquatic animals, like sharks. They never seek payment for their help, in any form. The mated pair of Bronze Dragons Emenoth and Kalasonthar will often swim up to divers and accompany them, they don't really mind posing for a picture either."

This is really great! I love the composition and the movement of the whole piece. The curves of the dragons' bodies along with the lines of the kelp make your eye move naturally through the frame. Also, little details like the bubbles and the lines of refracted light on the wing add to the overall effect. Plus, it's just a fun idea to begin with! Great job

Thanks, I usually get inspired by looking at picures from nature and thinking they'd be even better with dragons in them.

I cannot tell you how much I love this. A few years back, I was working on creating a half dragon, half elf mix and was trying to settle on a very plausible lineage as per dragon type and even elf type, esp since he was to eventually settle in/near Waterdeep. The logical choice ended up being Bronze dragon, gold elf for me for numerous reasons; of those, the fact that bronzes are helpful and friendly, though often hiding their true form/nature. I can't help but smile and feel all warm and fuzzy to see someone else depicting Bronzes in a way not to dissimilar from how I view them.

I'm glad you liked it, dragons don't always have to be the bad guys.
So, did your Elf eventually ended up meeting a Bronze in that campaign?

They do seem to like to put on a show for the camera. One question, are these dragons in the world of your storytelling? If so, when did they adopt new names? Just a question I thought I'd bring up. Nice piece of artwork.Β

Netarliargus In reply to NomexGlove [2018-04-13 23:40:46 +0000 UTC]

These do take place in the world of my storytelling, it's a way of expanding the world a bit. They do take place after the stories though.
As for when they chose new names for themselves, it depends on the individual, some might adopt a draconic name right away while others never change theirs. Though for the latter, I do tend to look at name lists for the area they're living in and pick one that would sound good on a dragon too. I also look at names from ancient civilizations if the dragon lives in the appropriate area. Like ancient Greeks, Romans, Aztecs, Mongols, Assyrians and so on since in my world, a lot of those ancient civilizations were also influenced by dragons.

There are Bronze Dragons from Dungeons & Dragons (as in the tabletop RPG). Bronzes are semi-aquatic and just as the artist described: friendly and helpful.Β

It doesn't always have to be fire-breathing, princess-kidnapping dragons, they can be cute and playfull too.

Archsteel In reply to Netarliargus [2018-04-14 00:31:20 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but typically that tends to be the Brass Dragons. With their "bury you up to your head in sand and ask you a million questions before digging you out" hijinks.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Netarliargus In reply to Archsteel [2018-04-14 10:11:05 +0000 UTC]

Coppers tends to be tricksters and pranksters, Brass dragons are the incessant chatterboxes and Bronze dragons tend to be a bit like dolphins, curious and playful.

Archsteel In reply to Netarliargus [2018-04-17 03:17:29 +0000 UTC]

The lore I'm familar with portrays them more as wandering warriors looking for a righteous cause. I prefer yours, honestly. Leave all that grim seriousness to the golds and silvers.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Netarliargus In reply to Archsteel [2018-04-17 21:50:21 +0000 UTC]

I had to adapt it a bit for modern times, there's less invading Orcs and marauding Ogres around these days anyway. Though they do go out of their way to take on pirates, whalers, drug traffickers, dolphin hunters and ships that dump garbage into the ocean. So, a bit like Aquaman, but then actually not lame.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Archsteel In reply to Netarliargus [2018-04-17 23:56:34 +0000 UTC]

Y'know, Aquaman is actually about as powerful as superman in the water. Also, in the animated series, he cut off his own hand to save his son and then coldly let his evil brother fall to his death while said brother begged for mercy. He has no memorable villains, because he killed them all.

That's all fair enough, and like I said I enjoy your interpretation a lot more.
