Concept art for a future fic idea. Sonic thinks that he is defending Tails, when it's really the other way around. I need better ideas for awesome powers for Tails, though ... Pally shield and hearth, while a great combination for a game, don't really work storywise. Although it is kind of fun to think about.I know the background should have more detail, but meh. The foreground action and special effects are more important, and they cover up too much of the background. I made the special effects much brighter than in the previous version, and added more ice chips.
I know the kitsune's pose is awkward. I drew her over and over, trying to figure out how to show off her nine tails but make her still look like she's attacking. Nine tails are a pain to draw. You have to wonder how a kitsune does things like sleep in a bed, or sit in a chair. They have this massive FAN behind them all the time. Bet it gets hot.

I KNEW IT. I knew I couldn't possibly be the only person on the entire friggin' planet to play around with the possible "kitsune" angle of Tails here.

I doubt it. My Tails comes to hate being a kitsune and their powers, and only learns the barest minimum amount of powers.

I love this picture, the special effects associated to it are really mindblowing, you've definitely improved. The stark contrasts between the blue and the yellow are outstanding, and really sets the picture off.
One thing I know that you are good at is expressions. They are beautifully done, Sonic's the best, it's just very powerful compared to the others and is brilliantly done alongside his sweeping quills. This is also the same with the kitsune and Tails, though the kit doesn't seem to have noticed his attack hasn't killed them both.
One thing that really sets off your pictures is the realistically-painted style in your colouring. The lighting is incredibly, especially along Tails' gloves and the kitsune's hair. I really would like to see this kitsune in any upcoming fic, she is very original and I'm interested in her perspective -- why she is attacking Sonic and Tails.
One thing I've also noticed is the falling ice crystals, and for some reason I adore this as well, almost as if you can hear the glass tinkling along the floor. One critique I have to point out is I think the background was finished a little too early, as you said, and I think a little more detail may have set this off better, but that is just my opinion.
Tails' powers... Well I believe that giving him a pally shield is fine

I'll second the awkward pose on the Nine-Tail-McFreezy there, but the lighting on Sonic and Tails is pretty nice.
I know you know this already, but just remember what Tails's strengths are as a character and give him powers to compliment that. I mean, while mindless destruction is cool and all, I really see Tails' strengths being more defensive than offensive. But hey, whatever works.

This came out beautifully. I love the shading, and the way you colored the magic shield was just awesome. It REALLY looks like real special effects!
The only thing that looks weird is the way the crimson fox's arms are drawn. It looks like his head is twisted around towards his back, the way the arm on our left is.... x-x;
Aside from that, this is a VERY good piece!
