Growing up with a not-quite-sane father and a marine-mother who's constantly traveling meant Karina ended up getting an odd blend of examples in her early childhood. Nikolai tried his best, just as he did with Nadya, but his best kept leading Karina towards the same amoral tendencies as his first child. The solution? He insisted they live near Madeline's sister so that the aunt and cousins could help properly socialize Karina. The result was... a child with just enough gray-areas to work out. In all honesty Karina still doesn't understand why we don't hit the other children but alright. They deserved it, but okay. It makes the grown-ups angry!

She never really clicked with other children at school, tending to be more isolated and hesitant. Mistaken for a timid & shy girl most of the kids left her to her isolation until she had the misfortune of being called on in class. She let her sarcastic streak show and from then on she was dragged into off-color jokes in class. So... she developed an off-color sense of humor that later turned into a defense mechanism when she fell under the scrutiny of bullies. Unlike her older half-sister Karina took to heart the 'we do not hit other kids' rule and never once threw a punch in self defense.

As a rule her family were very disciplined ( most of her relatives were active military which meant fairly strict schedules, occassionally moving around, etc. ) It was just easier for Karina to fall into a habit of discipline and applying herself with full dedication. So when she took something up she didn't drop it again, usually, unless it genuinely wasn't working out and if she had a set schedule to keep, she kept it. Whether or not she simply couldn't function without the schedule remained unknown to her parents because she always had a schedule to work with. ( no, she does not handle doing things 'on the fly' very well )

✖ H I S T O R Y:
The story started with her Father and her Mother meeting while Madeline was stationed state-side for a few years. They, naturally, hit it off and things rolled from there. With mildly rocky home-living happening around Nadya and Nikolai before he settled with Madeline but that was before Karina's time - even if she heard the stories all the time. She spent most of her time raised by her father or in her aunt's house with her cousins, or at school. Madeline was rarely home because of her job and had opted not to drag Nikolai and Karina around with her most recent assignments. It was probably for the best, except that it meant Karina saw far too little of her mother. Still she grew, and she nurtured a love for stories and music - her favorite stories being about Peter Pan - and family. School life was... mildly adventurous when she first fought with kids before learning not to. After that it was quiet and boring until she took the attention of bullies in sixth grade. Her father became exasperated by her insistence on not fighting with anyone. He couldn't convince her that in self-defense it was okay and she couldn't convince him that there was never an appropriate reason to fight. Madeline found the entire situation amusing and left them to the argument.

She lost her parents, an arm and her eye in a car accident Sophomore year (10th grade) and never really recovered from this event fully. She's still resentful of what happened and has a sharp temper with anyone who drives recklessly in any way around her. Her arrangement as a roommate with Shon was set up through friends and she's not entirely sure it was a good idea, now, but she's stuck with it now. The rest of her early childhood was spent with the Cross family rather than her mothers family.

Gentle and easy to handle she gets along with every dog simply because she doesn't smack, bite or growl at them.
