Another lioden contest entry. These have actually been helping me with my art rot and it feels really refreshing to be able to properly draw once more.

This time I had to revamp a rough alien concept made by the contest holder, although keeping that big yellow marking was mandatory. So well, this is what I came up with.

The idea is that this is an eyeless species which developed a powerful sense of smell through their multiple nostrils, along with several heat sensor orifices lining the base of their wing-like appendages. I see these creatures inhabiting an environment with very colorful foliage, specially fields covered with large orchid-like flowers. With their colorful body and appendages resembling petals they can easilly approach and ambush prey, then use their sharp claws and spikes to immobilize it. Their teeth are actually large bone plates, vaguely inspired after Dunkleosteus and Marsupial Lion. The bite is strong enough to crush bones and this creature focuses on ripping off large pieces of meat and swallowing them whole instead of chewing.

Besides camouflage, their head appendages are very useful for communication and makes them very expressive creatures. The blood flowing in those areas is specially hot, making the any movements quite visible to their heat sensors.

I forgot how fun it is to play with alien designs, specially those with bright colors. Hopefully you will enjoy it too.
