That's quite a stunning shot. I'm impressed by the sense of movement that you captured here, the palms in the wind add a fair amount of 'action' to the piece.
Also, the colours work nicely, they look natural, without taking away from the somewhat dramatic feeling that the lighting and the wind give.
The only thing that really bothers me is the rather high amount of noise. It becomes especially visible in the clouds, and disturbs me quite a bit.
That's my only critique, though. otherwise it looks really nice

Daniel

Well not to worry, what I can do is mentally copy and paste the top part of your comment along with the handful of other commentors who said how they love the grain! Then creating the ultimate comment!!

Err.. seriously though, you probably noticed that this is film. If I had paid $20-50 for a high quality neg scan, I may have avoided such strong grain--but gosh I might as well buy my own scanner if I am going to pay that much, right? Hmm.. Christmas IS coming up.
Anyway, thanks for the comment and for taking the time.

Yeah, I read your description. however, I must admit that my knowledge of photography is rather limited. especially film photography. I'm a mere beginner, and my cam is so bad that I have to post process every of my photos more or less heavily. so I usually tend to try and reduce the noise afterwards, but I saw that you did it with film, so I kept quiet
It's okay, I realised that you did that back in May too, just after I sent my comment and ugh for scans that cost 20-50$

niimo In reply to memod [2006-12-01 23:18:57 +0000 UTC]

Disclaimer on the scan price, I could get lower quality for $3-5, but it's hardly worth it. The next step up is the high quality, crazy prices. Anyhow, I'm with you on that, for the first few years I had little point and shoots, so neatimage was my second best friend in editing. But when I started shooting film I really began to appreciate grain as opposed to digital noise. Anyhow, thanks again for the comment, I do appreciate it.

yeah, mine is a point and shoot. I'd love to get myself a eos 350D with some decent lenses, but there are other things I need to buy first...like a new tablet
never used neatimage, so not sure how good that works, but anyway. I do agree with you, that in some photos grain does look good. However, I personally don't feel like it works with this one. I think grain works best with black white shots, anyway. But that's just my opinion

niimo In reply to memod [2006-12-02 02:12:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, opinions is all there is in art.

I think Neatimage is one of the most widely know noise removal tools. Does not do well with grain in my experience, but it great with noisy digital photos, and it's a freeware/shareware (free for basic use, which is all you need).

Hmm table or camera... I'd eat on the floor.

err....I said tableT quite a difference, if you ask me

and yeah, I have heard of neat image, but I always thought that you have to buy it, and photoshop did the job for me. or well, I do it by hand there

Aha! okay Nope, not difficult at all. The wind was not blowing that hard, plus, since in was actually very sunny, the shutterspeed was fast.
