Description Oh goodness. What am I doooing?

I don't even know.

This is what MLP:FiM has done to me. It made me want to draw my best friend and me as ponies. My friend doesn't even like the show (okay, so, actually, that made this even more amusing to me. Hee.)

But here we are. The earth pony would be my friend Nic! I'm tempted to call his pony-self Knick-Knack . Actually I'm more than tempted, considering I've already been calling him that. Hm.
And that means the unicorn is Nikohl-pony. Or just Kohl. That works.

So, yes, dedicated to the friend I have known for 8 years now! Somehow he's managed to put up for me that long, even when I'd do things like make him take me to the book store right before they close because "Omg dude they have that book I've been looking for and I can't wait until tomorrow pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease can we gooo?"

We're in different states now though so we can't do stuff like that anymore. I miss hanging out!

I had a lot of fun with the background. 'Tis meant to be just very stylized and not very correct with perspective and such. (One of these days I'll do a correct not ridiculously stylized background, I swear.) Also tried something different with those thick outlines. I like how it turned out.
And now that I got this out of my system I can go back to drawing the actual in-show ponies without thinking, "Hm, I wonder what color pony Nic would be?"

Sketched on paper. Outlined and colored and all that good stuff in Photoshop Elements 5, as usual.

Love iiit~
But I absolutely have to ask, how the heck do you make that texture? The texture you used on the ponies, I mean.
If it's one of those things you don't want to tell anyone I understand, but I also reeeaaally really really want to know. :v

Thanks!
Oh, don't worry, it's not a big secret. I just use a chalk brush for shading (and sometimes play around with the scatter/spacing settings).

Not problem! :D Your art is all pretty awesome. ^^
Oh cool, thanks a bunch! :O With the way it looks I'd suspected it was a brush, but there are kind of, you know, millions of brushes. xD Chalk was not one I would have thought of~

Heh, no problem! Yeah, there certainly are a lot of brushes. I tend to stick to the same 3 or 4, really. I'd probably get overwhelmed if I tried to use any more than that. xD

Don't fix what isn't broken, right? ^^
I usually stick with the brushes that came with Gimp, but lately I've been wanting to use more texture and found that Gimp's brushes just weren't cutting it.
And I also couldn't find any brushes I liked, so you can imagine I'm rather grateful that you told be what the brush was. c:

Heh, well, there's nothing wrong with experimenting with new things when it comes to art, it's just... so many brushes. o.e There's still plenty of ways to play around with new things even with using the same brushes.
Glad I could be helpful. The chalk brush can be reeeaaally fun to use (which is of course why it's my favorite).

Agreed~ :D
Heck, I never STOP experimenting. :v I'd get bored if I did. :v

I'd say so! :3
Can't wait to try it out myself. ^^

That background is damn cool! Every tiny bit of it screams awesome to me. And the shading/coloring on the tails and manes... *v* I especially love ... "Nic's" mane and his right eye, too.

Thank you very much! I'm really happy I went with this for the background. It was really fun and I think it just works.

Hooooly cow, I get my internet back and suddenly you've got all this awesome new art up! I'm not sure where to begin, but as always your texturing is phenomenal, and I really like the way the detail of the background meshes with the stylized line art.

I got so rambly with the description. xD But I just kept going, "I have to say more. People have to understand. Love went into this drawing! Looove."
