All the sorrow and heartache of the past two months (with my hubby losing his father, and then the massacre here in Norway) has left me in a total funk and I haven't been able to draw much of anything...So to kick myself back into gear, I doodled a little pic for myself: something cute, sweet and totally frivolous. I've long wanted to do FiM fanart (yes, I am a Brony), and this gave me the impetus (even though I'm a bit late for it): [link]
Princess Luna is my fave FiM char next to Fluttershy, and I like to pretend that that if she were to have a prize pupil/apprentice the way that Princess Celestia has Twilight Sparkle, then it would be my Lunacorn, since they share the same name, have similar cutie marks, and are both moon guardians/moon spirits and "ponies of the night". I can also imagine that Lunacorn might have kept Luna company during those long, lonely days that the Princess was exiled to the moon, and so here they are, hanging out and chatting away like old friends. (More likely, my Luna is probably chatting the Princess' ear off, since, like Fluttershy, she's only shy until she finds someone like-minded to talk to.)
Note: Princess Luna is Β© HASBRO and , and both chars are done in my own version of the FiM style, so my apologies if the Princess doesn't look exactly as she does on the show. And yes, I know the moon looks cheesy (literally); it's supposed to.
Also, the title is Latin for "Moon Friends".

I actually blame Discord for all this. I mean think about it... would it not make sense that he would have tried turning the sisters against each other like he did the six? Yet it would seem they held together and we able to defeat him.
Yet, perhaps he was able to plant seeds of doubt and uncertainty in Luna's heart... causing her to see her loving sister in a different like. These seeds could have then grown, causing her to see things in a more negitive light. Causing her to think no one liked her or loved her. That her sister did love her and that everypony only loved her.
This could have easily lead to her feelings of loneliness and jealously, causing Luna to perhaps create 'Moony', an imaginary friend as well as look for a means of becoming stronger then her sister. Which could the gotten Luna to do that which caused her to lose herself had have 'Moony' take over.
Celestia could have not seen this change for a number of reason. Perhaps her duties as princess we taking up all her time, perhaps Luna start bugging Celestia for more attention... perhaps, as is common when one is depressed... Luna distanced herself from Celestia. Luna hide her feelings and pretended nothing was wrong. You would be suprised at just how many loving families did not realize something was wrong with a member of then famliy until it was to late.
In this case Celestia did not realize her sisters 'fall' until see was already too late, thus forcing Celestia into a corner and needing to make a choice. Let this... force that controlled her sister destroy Equestria or find a way to defeat her. Now it is clearly shown that alone, Celestia was not strong enough to fight Nightmare Moon. So Celestia went fr the most powerful for known in Equestria... the Elements of Harmony.
Yet, as has been shown, the Elements of Harmony only work when harmony and friendships is strong. Yet Celestia only friend, her beloved sister Luna, was no more. Somehow it would seem Celestia forced or was able to use the Elements. Yet it seemed she was unable to uses them full. It showed that she only wore the crown, the Element of Magic, and not the others. My thoughts are is that she did not have the means to free her sister from the darkness that controlled her. Instead the Elements banished Luna for 1000 years on the Moon. It would make since that this was not what Celestia wanted to happen.
Imagine, all these years Celestia living with this guilt, living with the loneliness of losing her only friend and the only one that could understand her. Is Celestia perfect... no, yet she does the best she can and thinking of others before herself. For 1000 years Celestia ruled Equestria all by herself, watching all those she grew close to live and died. Undertsnading that by her choices a pony could be hurt or suffer... that is a heavy burden indeed.
Yet Celestia does so, not only that but she does it with a calm and even playfulness. Hiding from all the pain she most likely held inside herself, not even Twilight truly understanding her mentor.

Well, I would have thought it would be pretty obvious that she is a deer-based unicorn (seeing her deer ears, deer nose, deer muzzle markings, shape of head, etc...not just the cloven hooves). Also, old-style unicorns were almost always drawn with cloven hooves and long, tufted tails.

You know I usually don't like a lot of the MLP fan art (I'm assuming FIM is part of MLP, right? I haven't watched it since '89, so I don't know what they have for it now), but these two are just so cute it's infectious...plus, they definitely have your flair about them, instead of just being mere copies (or attempts at copies). Plus that moon is awesome

Yep, FiM is the new MLP, but you should really watch it! It's NOTHING like the old, cheesy one (it's 1000 times better!). I've even gotten my hubby into watching it! XD Anyway, thank you so much for the sweet comment!!

...I liked the old cheesy one. It was very 80s, like just about every 80s cartoon, but it was still cool. Chubby ponies are nice! I've tried watching the newer ones, but I just...can't. I can appreciate Flash animation as an internet splurge, or for some music videos...but I can only take so much. Computer animation is one thing, and even that has limits...Flash is being overdone. Now...if they looked like the ones you've drawn here? I could probably enjoy

I adore the stylisation - I'm a huge fan of Friendship is Magic but I definitely prefer original-styled ponies to simple mimicry of the show's style.
